El Chapo has managed to escape two maximum-security prisons in the past 14 years.

The drug lord was in prison from 1993 until 2001 when he made his first escape.

El Chapo’s Sinaloa cartel was one of the targets of the ATF’s infamous “Operation Fast and Furious” campaign in which U.S. agents sold automatic weapons to Mexican cartels in the hope of tracking them to drug lords for arrest.
