Black market’ll soon collapse —Adeosun

On effect of the Treasury Single Account ,TSA, Minister of Finance argued that though the effect in the short term was bad, “but in the long run, it is going to benefit the economy,” noting that it was also an opportunity for the commercial banks to do the real business of banking.

To some extent I agree with this

She informed the lawmakers that “the black market would soon collapse because it is not driven by any fundamentals and is a very misleading market. The craze for dollars is not driven by any rational consideration and it will soon collapse.”

The black market for dollars IS driven by rational considerations. Commercial banks (for whatever reasons) cannot meet the demands of people who need forex, so they have NO choice but to resort to the black market.

The giant elephant in the room is that Nigeria does not have a sustainable means of earning enough foreign currency for our treasury.

The current means of earning forex via selling oil, and other raw materials is no longer sustainable.

We need better and more stable means....like encouraging more non-oil and non-agric exports. It is a lot of hard work...but we will get there.

Also, we have to stop importing things that we can produce....or at least improving the quality of locally produced goods so that they can compete favorably with imported stuff.

So...govt and people....we get work.

One sure way to earn fx for the gvt to .create a massive agricultural export venture and value chain for coal, cotton, gnut, palm oil, cocoa, rubber and solid minerals

If you're into black market exchange, it won't be favourable this year as revealed by God.

Listen to this abracadabra at your own peril. Those who want to stay afloat must try as much as they can to save their money in foreign currency. There's nothing in place to help the comatose naira. No any solid manufacturing base in Nigeria and even the oil sales will soon drop again. Meanwhile, a lot of foreign companies are pulling out dollars from the system putting pressure on the already tight availability of the currency. This is simple economics. By April, 1 dollar should have been above N510. Madam Adeosun knows no economics.

Every day dis ppl make policies and d nxt day dey com out to tell us why their policies are no longer feasible and give excuses and counter excuses.. We need not to be reminded of the harsh realities because it is actually d masses who bear the grunt of it. The political class and d elites will still live jus fine whether Nepa isn't working or inflation is soaring or dollar is at an all time high. It's becoming obvious by the day dat most of their policies are simply trial-and-error policies. If they are beginning to question their policies and plans made about a year ago already, den dey shld start questioning their competences and stop shifting blames and making excuses. Those of u blaming ppl for importing things we can make here, how can we wen the power is non existent dats coupled with a whole bunch of other factors militating against setting up here or why do u think other major multinational industries seem to be relocating production bases to neighboring countries like Ghana? How long is dis govt going to kip reminding Nigerians of harsh realities when those were the same reasons dey were voted in in the first place.

The economy was not this bad, when she came in. The cost price of foods and other goods have trippled under her nose. Her policies are not helping matters.

Specifically affected in the new adjustments, according to him, include the projected inflation rate of 12.93 percent, which had to be put at 15 per cent, as efforts at bringing it down from the current 18 percent in which it stands “is not possible” while putting other factors into consideration, and the exchange rate of N290 to a dollar and now N305 to a dollar.

There's no convincing basis for such optimism. If they can't even project correctly the inflation and exchange rate within a short period of six months, that tells me all they're doing is "try and luck".

But the problem is,the so called things they are producing here is also expensive to buy.See red oil for Example 5 litre is 3700 and so many things like that.Things we are producing are suppose to be cheap for us to buy, but yet they are the most expensive.Does this banning of so many things really worth it.People are suffering o.Just that Naija Pple are smiling and suffering people.

@op well said!A lot of people are not aware that we have good quality products being made here in Nigeria. The other day i ordered for a pair of shoes on Jummia made by O'tega shoes and the quality was really good. So on a personal level, i have resolved henceforth to patronize only made in Nigeria goods unless and except where they are not available
