A little bit of something is not bad, but it becomes bad when it’s in excess. Alcohol shouldn’t be the reason why you are laying in a hospital bed or worst still something worse than that. A little intake of alcoholic drink is not harmful to the health, but it becomes bad when you make it a habit, such that you cannot even do without it. Use of an alcohol in a way that it causes distress or harm is known as alcohol use disorder or alcohol abuse.
Alcoholism is called alcohol use disorder because the users become addicted and craves for it like it’s their life. When they are depressed or broken, they sought for alcohol. In fact, practically every situation in their life is and should be solved by an alcohol according to them.
Alcoholism causes:
• Continues cravings for more of the alcohol
• Physical dependence for support- your life already depends on it, if you don’t drink it you can’t just function normally.
• Loss of control- that is, you keep drinking because it is the only thing that gives you the kind of feelings you want.
It automatically distracts all your life activity and makes you useless
Another common problem is binge drinking. It is drinking about five or more drinks in two hours for men. For women, it is about four or more drinks in two hours.
Too much alcohol is dangerous. Heavy drinking can increase the risk of certain cancers. It can cause damage to the liver, brain, and other organs. Drinking during pregnancy can harm your baby. Alcohol also increases the risk of death from car crashes, injuries, homicide, and suicide.
