America Foreign Policy; Donald Trump Should Not Create Another ISIS by seguntijan(m): 1:26pm On Jan 20, 2017
The 45th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump must leave all his fascist ideas and think twice in his foreign policies, especially in Asia and Africa in order to avoid birth of another deadly terrorist cells, especially in the Middle East as we have seen enough in Al-Qaeda, and ISIS. America has always been involved in either the creation or the subjects of propaganda in radicalising terrorists all around the world. Going through history, we as world citizens has realized the bitter truth that no one is a saint in the war theatre. We must also learn the lessons history teaches us, that we must not be doomed to make same mistakes again.
The 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon in the US is being regarded as the dawn of terrorist attacks in the developed western world in the 21st century. The attack was a pre-cursor to the US invasion of Afghanistan in which her government was said to have been indicted for the support and growth of Al-Qaeda, illegal occupation of Iraq – wrongly accusing her of housing weapon of mass destruction and can be seen as a turning point to the rise of violence and terrorism in the middle east and around the world.
The US foreign policy changed rapidly in the aftermath of 9/11 attacks, witnessing the astronomical increase in military budget and the creation of Homeland Security in 2002; tasked with preventing and intercepting local threat. Terrorist attacks in Madrid, Paris, London, and other European countries have significantly affected the foreign policies of most countries in the western world.
Diplomatic Brouhaha
The sympathy and condemnation of the 9/11 attacks gave strong support to US against terrorism by the UN and International community, notably the then Tony Blair led British government in the invasion of Afghanistan but widely condemned the unpopular occupation of Iraq based the wrong notion housing nuclear weapons. The unpopular decision to attack Iraq received wide criticism as the then UN Secretary General, Koffi Annan describe the occupation as illegal and against the UN Charter, undermining the sovereignty of Iraq.
The illegal occupation of Iraq gave a bad precedence in international diplomacy as it gave no respect to a sovereign nation, thereby laying a marker for such occurrence by other countries in future.
America – Soviet Cold War
The Cold war between the US and Soviet Union used several Arab and African countries as pawns in the war games. The fight against communism made US lost moral right against some security and ill governance around the world. The “Anything but Communism” stance against the call for democracy was severely jeopardized, US supported several corrupt entities in the bid to defeat Soviet Union in the proxy war.
Corrupt theocratic governments, military juntas and in some cases, rebel groups in Africa and Middle east received full financial and military support from the US in a desperate effort to defeat communism without moral rustication the democratic government She preaches. The Soviet Union invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979 to install a communist regime prompted the US to provide aids, military and financial support to the Mujahideen; a rebel group controlling most parts of the country, arming them to fight against the Soviet Union without considering their ideals. The US supported Mujahideen succeeded in driving out the Soviets but the Afghan factions of the Mujahideen metamorphosed into the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden led Al-Qaeda with loads of resources gained during the war.
The invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001 witnessed the resistance of insurgent groups in the country who killed thousands of American soldiers and destroyed several American war plane with their Ak-47, Machine guns and several arms supplied by the US during the Soviet-Afghan war that was hidden in several caves in Afghanistan and used against the American occupation.
The lesson learnt from these events resulted in the loss of the presidential seat by the republican party to the democratic party in 2008. Alas, the same occurrence of arming militant groups Is still happening around the world with the US government providing military and financial support to the Libya rebel against the Late Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and the Rebel groups in Syria. US Foreign policy with rebel groups forming parallel government with the host country, thereby jeopardizing the country stability has not changed because of the 9/11 attacks. It is left to be seen whether this decision would prove costly in the near future as it did with the Mujahideen in Afghanistan.
Immigration Policy
The heightened tension caused by the September 11 attacks prompted the US government tightened visa regulations and racially profile American citizens, security agencies were backed by the law on government oversight, to monitor phone and web surveillance, subsequently evading basic human right laws as a result.
Thousands with incomplete paper were deported at the slightest provocation, American citizen from the middle-eastern decent were severely stigmatized and harassed all over the country, giving rise to segregated communities in some states. The department of Homeland Security’s Yearbook of Immigration Statistics reported nearly 400,000 migrants were deported annually between (2009 – 2010). Half of those deported were convicted of a criminal offense, mostly for low-level and non-violent crimes.
The migration policy of the US has prompted the radicalization of local citizens through the internet to perpetrate evil on their home soil as evident in recent attacks in Europe and America. Migration policy has done little to the fight against terrorism. Terrorism must be fought with joint resources of everyone, a country alone cannot achieve it.
15 years after the world campaign against terrorism has yielded a level of success but there is still much work to be done. The US involvement in middle-eastern politics has succeeded in disrupting the countries therein, giving rise to the growth of several terrorist cells campaigning against US supported governments as a result of bad governance, clashes of civilization in culture and beliefs. Western countries need to accept that every culture is superior, and any attempt to override one against another could cause a disastrous clash in civilization as stated in professor Samuel P. Huntington theory.
An average middle eastern citizen hatred for America solely lies in her involvement in his/her countries politics, introducing reforms that are against the norms. Decades of American intervention in middle east has resulted in the death of millions of innocent people. Terrorist cell is utilizing this advantage to radicalized people have lost their loved ones. It is evident that military intervention alone cannot be a solution to world peace. The perceived association of terrorism with Islam by the west is an achievement to these terrorist who cell who are using religion as a tool to perpetrate evil.
The US foreign strategy since 9/11 has actively dealt with terrorism globally and has also created opportunities for the growth for terrorist cell globally. There is a need for a wide overhaul of this strategy which has continue to serve as poison and antidote as the same time.

United States Foreign Policy towards the Middle East

Americans like to think of their country as the goddess of liberty, holding high the torch of freedom as a beacon of light to all the peoples of the world. This belief according to Palmer and Perkins (1996:640) undoubtedly shaped the foreign policy of the United States which is principally to “create more secure, democratic, and prosperous world for the benefit of the American people and the international community”. Little wonder, Carr (1951: 87) states that..
