2016 was a very remarkable year in the history of Nigerian music industry irrespective of the region and geo-political location. We saw a lot of underground acts come out of their shell to do remarkable things, churning out good music from the north, south, east and west.

In view of this, i personally took note of these rising stars and their promising performance in 2016 and believe the will do better this year 2017.

Go through the list, tell us what you think about it.

B.O.C Madaki

B.O.C Madaki has grown to be one of the most popular names in the entire northern Nigeria and has proven to be more popular in the north than any other Nigerian musician is at the moment.

In december 2015, B.O.C dropped a 19 track EP titled “No English” which made him the most talked about hausa rapper in the whole of northern Nigeria.

His latest EP “Sorry Please Thanks” which was released in september 2016 further proved the Bauchi born act to be a very versatile musician. The entire project is not doing bad at all with tracks like Do That ft Kenny Wonder already very popular in clubs and parties.

After listening to this B.O.C deliver brilliant lines, you will conclude that the Olamides and Phynos and the rest of the over rated Nigerian MCs are nothing but mediocre.

M Josh (Tha Musikal Person)

M Josh is a very talented musical producer and singer, he has been around for quite some time now but yet to get that big breakthrough. The name M Josh “Tha Musikal Person” became popular after he played a vital role in the single“Spiritual Konji” by veteran rapper, Mr Raw. He produced and anchored the hook of the single which turned out to become Mr Raw’s biggest hit, giving him awards and international recognition.

He is still one of the finest people doing real music…some of his works include

M Josh – Onwa December

Black Messiah (Tribute to Mandela)

Indomie Girl

Selense

F2

F2 is an Imo state based versatile musical act. His first single “Ikuku” did not do bad at all, the delivery was dope and the reception it got from the audience was very impressive.

In fact, that song announced him as a very talented rapper. The follow up single “Gyration” became one of the most played songs by an upcoming act on air in the South East region.

From a personal perspective, i viewed F2 as a very good rapper that has his way with the wordplay craft until he proved that he can equally make a very good singer with the release of “Hapuchaa” which was the best cover i ever heard made from Ycee’s “Omo Alhaji”.

Judging by his versatile nature, he is everything any serious record label will want to invest on in 2017.

Lu King:

The young chap evolved in 2016 after releasing his first official single, “Clear Road” and backing it up with a very clement and energy parked musical video performance shot and directed by Imo based music producer cum music video director, EnzyPro.

Prior to the release of “Clear Road”, Lu King came out as the second runner up act on an online musical contest organised by Imo based music blog, enjoy9ja.com. This led to the production of “Clear Road” by Imo based producer, Kulsoul for Lu King as part of the benefits for the second runner up act.

The song which was later well mixed and mastered by EnzyPro brought Lu King to the notice of many music lovers.

The video to “Clear Road” has been bangin on local TV stations since its release. His follow up single, “Patricia” released in December 2016 is equally measuring up in the very competitive musicsphere.

Etunez:

The young talented and very energetic rising star took us by storm towards the third quarter of 2016 with a Somik produced “Young Shall Grow” which paved a way for him and also changed the ideology of many local key players.

“Young Shall Grow” told a life story most of us should learn from.

Truth be told, Etunez is becoming better with the craft and his so daring nature is one admirable quality he needs to hold on to. If he continues this way, limelight is sure this year.
