Christian body known as Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, on Sunday took their stand, by saluting Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries (OFM), Apostle Suleiman Johnson, for standing up for Christians and being blunt in the face of the constant killing of Christians by some herdsmen the northern Governors claims are from Mali and Senegal.


Bayo Oladeji who happens to be the S.A on Media and communication to the CAN president signed in a statement, said that the religious body frowned seriously against last Wednesday actions, where DSS attempted to arrest Apostle Suleman in Ekiti state, disagreeing that his latest comments on the religious crisis in the country is legally recognized by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. arguing that everybody including the clergy man Apostle Suleman is entitled to Freedom of Speech.

"it’s obvious that the clergy man has now become a refugee in Ekiti state as security operatives are believed to be searching every hide out of the state with a view to arresting him.


Should in case there is a pressing need to cross-examine Apostle Suleman on any issue, it would only have been appropriate to extend a formal or informal invitation to him from the SSS rather than using brutal approach in the attempt to arrest him.

Let me bring to your notice that under the Nigerian Laws, he is presumed innocent until a any competent court of law presumes otherwise. Or have they extended the planned detestable law that forbids religious preaching without the permission of the state governor down south too?

We have noticed with dismay that Buhari Government are now treating Ministers of God and our members as ordinary criminals, which is totally unacceptable to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

They are crossing their bounds. For the sake of those who are not aware. Sections 38-41 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) states evidently that every Nigerian is “entitled to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, as well as freedom to change his religion or faith, and freedom (either alone or in community with others, and in public or in private) to manifest and propagate his religion or belief in worship, teaching, practice and observance.


The Constitution states explicitly that ‘Every person shall be at liberty to freedom of expression, as well as freedom to cling to opinions and to accept and pass on ideas and information without interference’. Every person shall be at liberty to bring together freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any other group or association for the protection of his interests:


Every Nigerian is at liberty to move freely all over Nigeria and to inhabit in any part thereof, and no Nigerian shall be barred from Nigeria or refused entry thereby or exit thereof".


Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who is a Christian and the second Man in command, to come out and speak against the repeated attacks on Christians, stating that his silence on the matter is deafening


“This is the right time the overzealous security agencies should recognize that Nigeria as a country remains a secular state and any attempt to enslave Christians will not be tolerable and will be resisted with every possible means.


We therefore call on the Vice President of the republic of Nigeria and the acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to come to the rescue on all unnecessary clampdown on the Church in Nigeria after all, that is why we elected him because we believe he will represent the interest of the Christians and his recent silence is no longer golden "he said.
