The rate at which teenagers and youths fall victim to peer influence is of great concern. This is because the society is full of different behaviours caused by peers and most especially maladaptive behaviours which has put the society into one lacking morality and security. Peer influence is contagious like Ebola and HIV/Aids. As we all know, Ebola and HIV/Aids are contagious diseases that have led to uncountable cases of death.

Peer influence is also contagious like those diseases in our society. The rate of maladaptive behaviours in our society is very high, with teenagers and youths engaging in behaviours they are not meant to, as a result of bad peer influence. Peer influence is a contagious disease that is acquired by an individual through interaction with peer(s), So many teenagers and youths in our society are victims of peer influence which has been impacting their lives negatively. Thus, making it important for teenagers and youths to have a re-think on how they live their lives and control their future.

Peer influence could be negative or positive. The negative ones include illicit sexual relation, smoking, alcoholism, drug abuse, indecent dressing, prostitution gambling among others,. Good peer influence will never have anything to do with the aforementioned but rather involves advises on how to succeed in academic life, how to become one of the best in: education, general knowledge, sport, vocation, religion matters, and morality among others.

Our society is full of atrocities committed by teenagers and youths who lack good peer influence. Imbibing negative peer influence is a result of lack of confidence in oneself. A person engaging in illicit dressing, using expensive phone and wears based on money realized through illegal means, going to club, dating “big girls” and the likes due to jest and mockery from his/her peers is a manifestation of foolishness. It is a sign that such a person is very weak and immature.

People with illicit character may hail you, play with you, befriend you when they see you as a “successful person” or one who “belongs” but will desert you when problems come. You should not forget that whatever you achieve through illicit means will soon fade away.

I therefore advise parents to please guide their children on self confidence and ability to choose the right path. To the teenagers and youths out there, I urge you to please never allow bad peer influence into your lives. It does not worth it. Be yourself, be contented with what you have, be strong and confident in yourselves, always say no to advises and opinions that you know are destructive to your future, career and general life and most especially,be prayerful.
Wish you the best.
