Exclusive: Fayose may be impeached soon

The All Progressives Congress, (APC) has launched a fresh but more aggressive plan to unseat the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose. If the plan succeed, it will be the second time that the loquacious Ekiti State governor would be removed.
Information made available to Irohinoodua indicated that the plan is to launch a frenzy of fresh legal battles at the Supreme Court with the sole aim of unseating the Governor who has spent the better part of his second coming courting one storm after the other. The legal fireworks hopefully is expected to begin from this month of February.
Irohinoodua was informed that the APC will use fresh evidence obtained after the previous Supreme Court judgment to nail the governor. When this happens, the APC will ask the Supreme Court to reverse its own judgment based on fresh and incontrovertible evidence indicating the June 21 Gubernatorial election did not in any way reflect the wish of the majority of the people. The ground zero of the plan is to hammer Mr Fayose on the basis that he was not even qualified to have contested the election in the first place, having been impeached earlier, a track it was believed the Federal Government under the PDP attempted to sweep under the carpet.
What appeared an astonishing discovery were the billions of cash given to officials of the Independent Electoral Commission, (INEC), Security operatives to skew the election in favor of Mr Fayose and manipulate the end result of the controversial poll.
Other new variables being explored by the APC are the evidences being proffered by some members of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) who are disgruntled with the party hierarchy led by Fayose.
A source hinted Irohinoodua that the court will also be asked to interpret sections of the constitution which stipulates that a person impeached by the House of Assembly is not competent to contest any other election in the first 10 years of the impeachment.
Mr Fayose as impeached in 2006 by the Ekiti State House of Assembly. Till date, no court of law has squashed the impeachment which had been gazette by the Federal Government. Though in an unanimous judgment, a seven-man panel of Justices of the court led by Justice John Fabiyi, held that the appeal which challenged Fayose’s election victory at the 2014 Ekiti State governorship election lacked merit. The panel said that the APC failed to prove its allegation that the election was fraught with unparalleled irregularities, adding that the allegation that Fayose tendered forged Higher National Diploma Certificate ‎to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was not proved beyond every reasonable doubt. The Court also said the impeachment of Mr Fayose in 2014 did not follow due process.
But there have been claims that the pronouncement by the Judges were fraught with irregularities which the APC hopes to challenge with fresh evidence. It is believed that the judgment was influenced by corruption in the judiciary.
The APC will also explore the alleged inconsistencies in the forms filled by Mr Fayose at the Code of Conduct Bureau.
In one instance he was said to have claimed he had 400 million in his account whereas the money in his account as at the time he filed papers was far less than 400 million meaning that the filled form was anticipatory.
However, there are concerns on what will be the implication if eventually Mr Fayose is kicked out. If the APC succeeds, the Federal Government will be compelled to appoint an Administrator who is expected to conduct fresh elections in the first six months. This may have been responsible for the deluge of APC Gubernatorial aspirants that have sprung up in the past few months. As at this week, no fewer than 14 aspirants have lined up with the hope of contesting a fresh election if Mr Fayose is impeached.
