Super Eagles consider friendly vs 'robust-playing' DR Congo for Cameroon clash

Nigeria Super Eagles are proposing a second friendly against “robust-playing” DR Congo in London in March as they step up their preparations for a crunch 2018 World Cup double header against Cameroon in August.

The Eagles have already sealed a friendly with Senegal also in London in March.

The three-time African champions are shopping for African teams who play the same type of robust football like World Cup rivals Cameroon, who on Sunday clinched a fifth AFCON crown in Gabon.

“Eagles will play two friendlies in London and already the Senegal game has been confirmed and now discussions are going on for a second game there against DRC, who also a robust game like Cameroon,” a team official informed AfricanFootball.com

Both Nigeria and DRC clashed in another friendly in Belgium in 2015.

DRC have been consistent under coach Florent Ibenge after they finished third at the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea, before they lost in this year’s AFCON quarterfinal to Ghana.

Big striker Junior Kabananga finished as top scorer of AFCON 2017 with three goals, while other stars include skipper Youssouf Mulumbu and Hull City striker Dieumerci Mbokani

Not Congo.... But DR Congo. There's a difference.

Congo is Congo brazzaville. DR Congo is Congo Kinshasa (formerly Zaire).

Most of our key stars are EPL-based... Besides, most of our friendly games in recent years have always been played in England.

Playing DR Congo and Senegal in international friendlies are very good moves indeed.

They have similar playing style to the Camerounians. But let it be noted that the Camerounians are more tactically disciplined than both Senegal and DR Congo which is why Cameroun conquered Africa.

Cameroun defeated the best team at the Afcon at the quarter finals stage in Senegal and that alone gave them the rise in adrenaline and confidence to outwit Ghana and stun Egypt.

I am confident in the chances of the Super Eagles but these camerounians are to be taken doubly seriously. Our double-header battle will be super legendary.

African football will witness a spectacle come August and September.

Lemme answer the bolded... smiley

They are in the group of champions (all are Afcon champs, Algeria-1, Zambia-1, Nigeria-3, Cameroun-5). The group of death and the group of Blood and sand. smiley

We have 10 Afcon titles alone in that group. Haba!!! What do u expect? grin

This group of Cameroun, Zambia, Algeria and Nigeria is the toughest ever group of soocer teams in African football history. Never before have a group like this with such pedigree been put together. So Cameroun struggling is not a surprise.

......................

And Cameroun didn't defeat Senegal by mere luck in the quarters. Go back in history and you will find that Cameroun hardly ever loses to Senegal at the Afcon. It was history and tactical discipline on display that day not luck.

Cameroun deserve their title. smiley

Lovely. Can't wait to watch this. Although would have preferred Burkina Faso - one of the best teams if not the best in the just concluded AFCON.
