[center]Please share with us all that you know about telemedicine.It's an area id like to take more seriously but i don't know where to get information.
All i know is that it has the potential to turn the Nigerian Health sector around.[/center]

Telemedicine is a great area that might help a large country like Nigeria. You however need advancement in technology to achieve this. Regular electricity is important and ability to service the equipment being used. I don't think we are ready for this yet. I feel we still need to get the basics of health and health education sorted out first. It might be ideal in some private hospital who have satellite units. Nurses can show doctors in the main centre things for interpretation via video conferencing (telemedicine). Try not to confuse this with robotic surgery, which is even more advanced. There is a company in Glasgow, Scotland that deal with this and sort out the NHS in UK.

But I personally think that there is no quuestion of not being ready for
telemedicine.Nigeria beign a third world country should benefit from it more than
the so called technologically advanced countries.How do i know this?
The essence of telemedicine is to provide specialist medical care where there is no specialist
.In essence,Large sums of money spent by The government on it's officials' regular visits abroad
can be reduced to a minimum.Moreso, Nigeria is a country still agonizing from the effect of brain drain
.i believe that with telemedicine, it's over 6,000 doctors in diaspora can be of immense benefit to the system
back home.
They could also be a multiplier effect to the extent that ,rather fresh medical graduates leaing the country for better jobs
abroad they can stay back and yet still work for foreign hospitals right here from home.This can help stem the effect of brain drain.
These however is why i think that there should be attempts towards it's introduction in Nigeria.Yhe state of eectricity not withstanding.
