Medical Tourism: Nigerian govt to roll out policy to end trend

The Federal Government of Nigeria has proposed a policy that would revive the health sector and restore confidence to the system thereby putting an end to medical tourism in the country

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole disclosed this on Wednesday at the end of Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday in Abuja.

The policy is tittled "Promoting the health of Nigerians to accelerate socio-economic development”. "When full implemented, the health system will take a turn for the better and would engender trust in the health system in a way that Nigeria would be proud of the health system,” says Adewole.

A technical working group was constituted and chaired by former minister of Health, Prof Eyitayo Lambo to look at Nigeria’ contest, its challenges and prospects for the nation’s health sector. The policy is a framework developed by the committee.

The Minister claimed the government is pro-poor and committed in alleviating the problems of the less privilege and disadvantage.

The new police will support the achievements of significant progress in terms of improving the performance of the national health system. It will emphasize the issue of primary health care as the bed rock of Nigeria’s health system. It will also ensure financial risk protection to all citizens particularly the poor and venerable group.

You don't need to roll or dish out further senseless policies.

Simply send a note to Mr President to stop spending our scarce forex in the UK.

We've got doctors, nurses, and specialists here. If he must eat vegetable (especially ugwu), lots of farmers, including Obiano, would willingly deliver.

A good initiative. However, it seems dead on arrival. What is the point of having Prof Eyitayo Lambo chaired the committee? If he had any idea worth working with, he could have implemented same when he was the health minister.
