About The Firm:
We are one of the foremost indigenous marine firms in Nigeria with head office in Lagos and operations spanning different cities of the Niger Delta. We service and support a host of indigenous and multinational oil and gas companies in Nigeria in our area of core competence. As a result of expansion, we require the services of an experienced Technical and Operations Superintendent for our ocean going vessels.

Job Title: Technical/Operations Superintendent
Reports To Managing Director

Location:
Port Harcourt/Lagos, Nigeria

Purpose of the job

o You will be responsible for the overall management and technical operations of our fleets. This includes overseeing the daily operations of maintenance and repair, budgeting, survey schedules, onboard general assessment of vessels, inspections and docking, etc.
o Ensure the assigned vessels are technically operational or otherwise managed accordingly to the management agreement requirement
o You will be responsible for all technical and operational related issues, including correspondence.
o You will be directly responsible for ensuring all procedures are adhered to and comply with International safety management (ISM), classification society rules, and Maritime insurance.
o Liaise with customers on technical and operational matters including vessel performance, etc
o Attend to vessel dry docking, repairs and survey when required and determine repair specifications for dry docking and maintenance.
o Provide and compile documented reports upon completion of dry docking, including summaries of works performed, operational budgets, and actual expenditures.
o Identify and source for technical and operational supplies required for the vessels and ensure the rates are most economical.
o Ensure that all copies of statutory and equipment certificates (life rafts, compasses, etc) are properly maintained and documented
o Perform evaluation for dry-docking, repair quotes and selection of shipyards for repair works, ship maintenance etc
o Perform monthly review of logs processes and attend to vessel inspections
o Monitor technical status of vessel with relation to class cert and survey, Supervise contractors’ repair/maintenance of vessels
o Perform budgeting and cost control measures on ship spares and docking requirements
o Perform technical compliance audits and investigation on defects/failures on a regular scheduled basis to ensure conformance
o Work closely with the HSE Management team to ensure smooth and successful implementation of QHSE system and policies for the Division. Perform systematic review of recommended codes, guidelines and standards and ensure compliance with Quality & Safety Management standards
o Ensure and maintain vessels’ zero loss time accident record and to report all vessel incidents, Near Misses to prevent and eliminate potential incidents.
o Administer disciplinary actions as needed, including progress reports and written warnings
o Maintain fleet in great and safe working order while accommodating as best possible for normal operations and schedules to continue.
o Complete all individual staff evaluations for vessel staff
o Strong dedication to your job and your team
o Maintain a fair work environment

Requirements:

o Minimum: COC Chief Engr, HND/B.ENG in Mechanical/Marine Engineering with at min 7-10 years relevant experience in similar position
o Possess relevant sea-going work experience as Chief Engineer/Marine Engineer with minimum class 2 certification or equivalent with in experience in AHTS, Offshore Supply/Offshore tug/ Dive Support vessels/Security Vessels/Platform Support vessel.
o Those with DP vessel experience will be highly advantageous.
o Analytical and highly proactive in technical trouble shooting and problem solving
o Familiarity with ISM / ISPS is a must
o Able to conduct effective stand-up training for vessel crews
o Ability to travel within short notice as required
o Ability to use the Microsoft packages: MS Word, Excel, MS Access, Power Point and Outlook

o Extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of Nigeria marine environment and maritime laws
o Positive, enthusiastic and self-motivated
o Demonstrates high level of professionalism and PWF representation
o The ability to delegate positively
o Demonstrates follow-through on all vessel maintenance issues
o Team player with administration and crew
o Excellent decision making skills
o Excellent communicator, clear and direct
o Excellent managerial skills
o Ability to set and meet goals and deadlines
