The existence (or otherwise) of contact is irrelevant. After all, Football is a contact sport.

But I said the card wasn't necessary (note the word 'necessary') 'cos Atkinson could have sternly warned Rooney.
He didn't have to flash a yellow.

I said it earlier, Atkinson simply wants to be strict, and he used Rooney as his scapegoat.

My points here are, Rooney did not dive 'cos there was contact, and the card was not necessary.
Why give a card when you don't have to?
