The acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was rejected twice by the Nigerian senate not because of the indicting report the Department of State Security (DSS) issued on him, a highly placed source had told The Nation.

The Nation reported that seven state governors plotted Magu’s removal due to his strong stance against corruption.

The plot began when Magu initiated a probe against some governors over alleged diversion of ₦19 billion from the London-Paris Club loan refund.

A source told The Nation that a governor from the North East led about 10 senators to the acting EfCC chairman to lobby him to stop their trial.
