Jurgen Klopp's New Buys by Footiehound89(m): 8:21am On Mar 18, 2017
Liverpool made some major acquisitions in the summer. The Jurgen Klopp led side ensured they added more quality to their ranks. They went for six players in total with the relatively big money signing being the Senegalese attacker, Sadio Mane. They also added Georginio Wijnaldum, Ragnar Klavan, Loris Karius, Joel Matip and Marko Grujic to their side. These players have all made their contributions to the team this season. Let’s see how well they’ve fared by their numbers:

SADIO MANE

NATIONALITY: SENEGAL

PREVIOUS CLUB: SOUTHAMPTON

POSITION: MIDFIELDER – ATTACKING MIDFIELDER.

The Senegalese attacker was the big money signing for Liverpool this season. He has unarguably been the best signing for Liverpool this season. He was impressive at Southampton and has gone a notch higher at Liverpool. He has been a key player in Liverpool’s attack and his absence during the AFCON tournament where he represented Senegal spoke volumes of his significance to the side. He is the highest goal scorer for Liverpool this season. A very agile, energetic, skilful and pacey attacker. A decent finisher too. His numbers so far this season are given below:

25 appearances in the PL. 24 starts and 1 sub appearance
2 league cup appearances
2101 minutes played in the PL
12 goals scored in the PL
5 assists delivered in the PL
3 yellow cards to his name
2 man of the match awards to his name

GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM

NATIONALITY: NETHERLANDS

PREVIOUS CLUB: NEWCASTLE

POSITION: MIDFIELDER –CENTRAL MIDFIELDER

The Dutch midfielder snapped up from Newcastle has been a mainstay in the Liverpool side. One of the few central midfielders with decent attacking numbers so far this season. He has been good so far by his standards. A good dribbler too and has a decent final pass in his feet. His numbers:

26 games played in the PL. 23 starts and 3 sub appearances
1 FA cup appearance
5 league cup appearances. 3 starts and 2 sub appearances
2081 minutes played in the PL
5 goals scored in the PL
4 assists made in the PL
3 yellow cards to his name. 2 in the PL and 1 in the FA cup

JOEL MATIP

NATIONALITY: CAMEROON

PREVIOUS CLUB: SCHALKE 04

POSITION: DEFENDER – CENTER BACK

A key addition to shore up Liverpool’s defence. Has played a part in ensuring they let in less goals but they’ve still struggled to keep clean sheets. The towering defender has brought in some level of composure to the defence line. A very decent defender in terms of tackling and ball interception. These are his numbers:

19 games in the PL. 18 starts and 1 sub appearance
3 games in the league cup
1621 minutes played
1 goal in the PL
2 yellows to his name

LORIS KARIUS

NATIONALITY: GERMANY

PREVIOUS CLUB: MAINZ 05

POSITION: GOALKEEPER

A goalie brought in from the German Bundesliga to rival Simon Mignolet for the number 1 spot. Had a few chances to make a case for himself for the starting berth but has not really met expectations to warrant his replacement of Mignolet in the starting lineup. A decent back up nonetheless.

10 games played in the PL
3 each in the FA cup and league cup
900 minutes played in the PL

RAGNAR KLAVAN

NATIONALITY: ESTONIA

PREVIOUS CLUB: FC AUGSBURG

POSITION: DEFENDER - CENTER BACK

The Estonian experienced defender was brought in from Augsburg to complement Liverpool’s defence line. Has been okay going by the time he has spent on the pitch. He has had a decent run of games in all competitions. His numbers:

15 games played in the PL. 12 starts and 3 sub appearances
1 appearance in the FA cup
4 appearances in the league cup
1134 minutes played in the PL
2 yellows to his name

MARKO GRUJIC

NATIONALITY: SERBIA

PREVIOUS CLUB: RED STAR BELGRADE

POSITION: MIDFIELDER

He is one for the future going by the opportunities he has been given this season. Clearly a young prospect that will get his opportunity to ably represent Liverpool with time.

2 sub appearances in the PL
3 games in the league cup. 2 starts and 1 sub appearance
28 minutes played in the PL
1 yellow card to his name in the league cup

These are all Klopp's new buys. The season is fast coming to a close. Let's hope the decision to sign these players pays off with a slot in the top 4 at the end of the season
