Manchester City and Liverpool suffered a huge setback in the race for top four and UEFA Champions League (UCL) qualification as far as the English Premier League is concerned after both sides played out a 1-1 draw in a league game on Sunday evening.

Going into the game, Manchester City (56 points) were in third position and Liverpool in fourth position (55 points). With the target of usurping their hosts in mind, Liverpool started the better of the two sides but it was the home side that had the best chances of a goalless first half with Raheem Sterling missing the clearest one.

Both sides had chances to double their tally with England international Adam Lallana practically missing the best chance of the whole game with the goal gaping. The two teams had to settle for a share of the spoils as their respective top four hopes suffered a huge dent.
