A passenger plane carrying 44 passengers and five crew onboard has crashed and burst into flames after landing at Wau Airport, South Sudan on Monday. Everyone onboard survived.

The Antonov An-26 belonging to South Supreme Airlines was on a domestic scheduled passenger flight from the capital Juba to Wau in northwest South Sudan when it crashed.

Bad weather and poor visibility appear to have contributed to the crash as the plane overshot the runway and hit a fire truck and caught fire, according to an eye witness.

The plane was landing but then crashed, according to Wau's Acting Airport Manager Stephen Youngule who is also Deputy Director of Air Traffic Services.

"The plane touched down and then jumped up again. The pilot couldn't control it," said Youngule. "I saw it until the very last moment before the fire engulfed the aircraft."

When the plane crashed, its door flew open, which allowed the pilot and rescue crews to get everybody out, he said. Those with injuries were taken to Wau's hospital for treatment, said Youngule.

Injured passengers and a crew members were taken to a local hospital for treatment to injuries sustained during the crash and evacuation.

South Supreme Airlines has reportedly suspended operations with immediate effect. The airline began operations in September 2013 with only two small aircraft.
