my book a compilation of poems by me is now available for sale on every format available,

here's a review for your conviction

As always, do not let my star count override your judgement of content. More on the stars, counting, and my rating challenges later. A review is one person’s reaction to a work, subject to bias and cultural interpretation. This collection of thirty-four poems opens with one including non-English words and still it somehow works.
For a strange metaphor, turn to Evelyn (Ode to My Guitar.)
For a not-love poem nicely done, turn to Hi, which is an invitation for ‘the one’ to announce herself.
For a scary piece on ‘retribution’ turn to Nemesis.
The prose poem How to Be a Lagosian plays with the reader. Turn to this piece for a good chuckle.
If you’re scrolling for the tiny carps, there might be a typo. Not unusual. Back to the good stuff.
My First Christmas is an admittedly made-up ‘memory,’ in which we find this: “But what confused me most was the red socks that hung on the walls /And the trees within the house /A botanical flaw /But I stayed awake to see the rumoured Santa clause climb down a chimney we never had.”
Santos can do social commentary, as in The World Is Not Itself, which begins by awakening the reader with this: “Historians have started prophesying /And prophets now quote history /The world is not itself anymore /Earth must now spin on Mercury’s axis /Or how well do we explain this heat?” and it goes on much farther than global warming.
Given all that, how do I come up with three stars? My personal guidelines, when doing any review, are as follows: five stars means, roughly equal to best in genre. Rarely given. Four stars means, extremely good. Three stars means, definitely recommendable. I am a tough reviewer. I try hard to be consistent. Santos is a promising new poet, and is clearly recommended here. Your personal rating may be higher.
