Judy was employed as the new member of the sales team of XYZ Company. She got along so well with her team members and within a few weeks she became really good friends with a couple of them. They often talked about personal matters, work related matters and sometimes even joke about stubborn clients. Judy actually thought she had a friend in these coworkers until she was made the Sales Manager after10 months on the job. Her friends at work began to give her the cold shoulder. They also started hiding important information that could help her do the job properly. This only means that, Judy’s so called friends were actually ‘frenemies’ in disguise.

The office is a mix of different people with different personalities thrown together for one purpose only – work. For those of us with white collar jobs, we spend a better part of our lives in the office environment and with time, we start forming a type of bond and relationship with the people we work with. Some are long lasting and meaningful, some are solely for the purpose of getting the work done. While others are actually frenemies, and you need to be very cautious when dealing with these set of people.

Who is a frenemy?

A frenemy is someone who pretends to be your friend but is actually a rival or an enemy. They are usually disguised as a close acquaintance whilst they are actually out to bring you down. They are everywhere including the office, watch out for them!
