You Are God's Righteousness.

"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him". (2nd Corinthians 5:21).

The subject of righteousness is a highly misunderstood one. To some professing believers, they assert no one can be righteous. So, they still see themselves as sinners. There are also those who think righteousness has to do with trying to keep the commandments of God given through Moses under the Old Testament. Quite a few other religious folks think it is in their dress pattern.

What then does the Bible teach about righteousness? First, your righteousness is not based on keeping the Law of Moses which includes the ten commandments. The Scripture says, "Being conscious that a man does not get righteousness by the works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ, we had faith in Christ Jesus, so that we might get righteousness by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law: because by the works of the law will no flesh get righteousness". (Galatians 2:16, Bible in Basic English Translation).

Righteousness is not also in your dress code even though every professing believer ought to dress decently. You can put on long skirts and still be as wicked as the devil. You are not also righteous because you put on white garment to church. Our Lord Jesus told the pharisees, "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also OUTWARDLY APPEAR RIGHTEOUS unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity". (Matthew 23:27-28).

Since the keeping of the law of Moses could not make the Jews that were given the Law righteous, Jesus came to destroy the power of sin over our lives through his death on the cross. He took your sin and in exchange gave you his righteousness. So, in the mind of divine justice, you are now God’s righteousness in Christ if you have accepted him as your Lord and Personal Saviour. So, this righteousness we are talking about is a free gift.

This gift of righteousness gives you the ability to stand before God with any sense of guilt, condemnation or inferiority complex. Your life has been imparted with the very life of God. You have been brought into the same class as God. Hence, you can call him your father. Abraham, Moses and Elijah could not call God father because they didn't have this gift of righteousness you and me have today. Ironically, a lot of God's children don't even know that they are God's righteousness in Christ.

If you fall into an error, can you still claim you are God's righteousness? God did not only save you, he also made a provision for your mistakes. It is written, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". (1st John 1:9). So, you do not lose your righteousness because you made a mistake. You only got stained. Just clean up by the blood of Jesus and move on in your Christian walk. But if you continue in error deliberately, you could lose your righteousness. Therefore, "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace". (Romans 6:12,14).

Prayer and Confession of Faith: I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I have the boldness to go to God without a sense of condemnation of sin or inferiority complex. Father, I thank you for this precious gift of righteousness that has brought me into right standing with you. I ask for your grace to resist sin in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Prophecies: When the world was destroyed with flood in the days of Noah, it was the righteousness of Noah that delivered him and his household. I therefore declare today that the gift of righteousness you have received will deliver you and your household from every impending trouble in the mighty name of Jesus. For gross darkness shall cover the earth but the glory of God shall be seen upon you in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
