I use this principle:

If it's too hard, you're doing it wrong!

Make sure you take time to reflect upon what you are doing and look for ways to do it simpler or even not at all.

When you are in a constant hurry, you are NOT smart.
In order to be smart, some laziness is required. To be able to say "there has to be a better way of doing this".

You need to have sufficient free time away from work so that you can reflect, study and feel the pain. By "feeling the pain", I mean to realize there is a problem or something that is draining you with energy and look for ways to eliminate or simplify that. If there is something tedious to do, look for ways to automate or delegate that. If you feel overwhelmed, look for ways to do only what really matters. If you feel bored, look for something challenging.

Hardwork most times requires ur physical energy....Example our grand parents were accustomed to using pestle and mortar to make pounded yam...
Smart work requires you to still work hard to an extent but eliminates it there after...
eg in our present age,we don't need to use pestle and mortar again due to the introduction of poundo yam, poundo machine etc
