Top 50 Best Secondary Schools In Africa!! by emeka1101: 6:45am On Apr 11, 2017 |
You’ll agree with me that coming up with a list of the best secondary schools in Africa from different countries across the entire continent is going to be difficult as different countries follow different guidelines and curriculum as well as completely different regional assessments. According to the author, attention was given to schools that have historical prominence at a national and regional level during compilation of this list. That is the reason most schools that featured on the list are also quite old, schools that were very good at a national level, yet lacked regional presence were also considered given that they did not have any regional assessments to partake. South Africa is still dominating the list with over 15 colleges and secondary schools making the list of 50 Best Secondary Schools in Africa, of course Grey College South Africa is dominating the list at number one position. Kenya only managed eight slots with Rift Valley Academy emerging No. 2 in Africa and overall best secondary school in Kenya. We have two schools in Zimbabwe taking positions 5 and 6, with another Kenyan school at number 7. Academic giants like Alliance, Starehe Boys and Lenana ranked very many slots behind Rift Valley Academy. Selborne has always been a very good school. Making East London proud. I'm surprised Clarendon didn't make the list. It used to be a sought after school back in the day. Just too expensive. Let me represent my hometown, Selborne College. Chyeah! 1 Share

I can authoritatively say the world has issues with Nigeria. We have schools here in Lagos that will humble almost all the schools in South Africa. Rubbish list! 2 Likes |

LordIsaac: LMAO. Cry until you cry droplets of blood! Must you always compete with South Africa? South Africa has some very good schools, of which didn't even make it on that list. I guess they only chose the creme de la creme, by world's standards. |

Khd95:Na ordinary local packaging them get na. some of those private schools in Nigeria don't have basic school facilities such as Library, standard laboratory, standard clinic, hostel facilities and sport facilities. School rating is based on school plant ( standard play ground, organised class rooms, laboratory, library, office building, hostel and staff quarters) and academic strength which is seen from the school' performance at both internal and external examinations as well as performance at international level. Take a stroll to some of the schools with those ridiculous school fees in Nigeria and you will be shocked they don't have enough land for expansion, the erect story building cos of lack of space hence the don't bother about sport arena and co.. Not to forget the calibre of teachers in the school, in most of the private schools in Nigeria, you see someone who studied Civil engineering teaching Agric Science, Biology and Chemistry, a history graduate teaching Economics, government and Business studies. They maximise staff to reduce cost and make plenty profit while the students suffer. Only in Government owned schools you will see proper allocation of subjects but the teachers there are very unserious due to poor remuneration and welfare package. 4 Likes |

ZarZar: Very funny, @ the bolded. For every ranking, there must me some criteria. For this, there must be some secret ones used. Lol And please I ain't disputing the fact that South Africa has very, good schools, but He has a point by that comment. If you've been to some schools in LAGOS alone, you'll know that at least one Nigerian school deserves to be in the top 10, by ANY standard. I'm not saying this just because, trust me. It's based on the facts on ground secondary school -wise, what I know and have seen locally and internationally. This isn't about any competition whatsoever, or about South African secondary schools dominating the list. Whoever came up with that list must definitely have some issues WITH Nigeria! Cheers |

wunderkiind: Have you been fo any of this schools. Can you even mention any nigerian school with mutiple soccer, rugby hockey basketball and pools. Laboratories that put government to schame. Hell some of these schools have private forest for trailing and acres of land to plant. Why must nigerians think they have it all. What kind of school internationally have you seen? 1 Like |

Like i've always said, most of the expensive private sec schools in Nigeria are where people go to show that they belong to the wealthy class. Most of them can't boast of offering quality education to their students. 2 Likes |

sHOTdownHawk: Very funny. I don't need to tell you the number/calibre of schools have been to, home and abroad to drive home any point. Are you a Nigerian? Well I'm quite sure you have absolutely no idea of some schools that exist in Nigeria, talk less of visiting yourself. The only thing is some of these schools might not be that popular as some others. Can you even mention any nigerian school with *mutiple soccer, rugby hockey basketball and pools.Laboratories that put government to schame. Hell some of these schools have private forest for trailing and acres of land to plant.* Is that the criteria for determining which school is the best?? I'm very sure that wasn't used in the ranking of the @o.p. Like I said earlier, anybody can come up with any criteria to determine these rankings, but saying that the number of rugby/hockey pitches etc, a school has determined it's quality is laughable. How many Nigerian school laboratories have you seen/visited? And how many have you seen abroad? Why must nigerians think they have it all. SMH. Your comment reeks of ignorance. And lack of exposure. I'm being objective here, but sadly you aren't. This isn't about Nigerians, okay? This is about facts. I put it to you too, how many have you been to? How many have you seen, in Nigeria? LOL. #Bye |
