Thief. Robber. Burglar… You know them. They’re merciless. They steal your stuff because of their personal gains, and they don’t bloody care about whatever happens to your wellbeing as a result of their theft.

On December 31, 2016, some burglars came to my master’s house and stole his laptop when he was fast asleep in the dead of night. The loss of the laptop was not as painful as the loss of all the intellectual property in the laptop, which is worth several millions of naira.

The burglars came two weeks later and went away with his generator.

They came back later and went away with his clothes.

If he was not financially OK, he would have been wrecked. Needless to say, he informed the police but they only took more money from him.

Now, for the fear for his life and family, he got a brand-new, very sharp, large machete. His aim is to lurk around in a hidden place every Friday night from 12.00 A.M to 3.00 A.M (for the burglars are mostly active on Friday/Saturday nights).

His aim: Anyone that enters his compound in the dead of night would be macheted to death instantly.

Would he be arrested by the police if he does this? Would he be charged for murder if he kills a robber, who in turn, would not hesitate to kill him if they can do so?

If you kill a robber, you can be arrested if you can't prove he was a robber. Otherwise, dump his corpse in the street, while no-one sees you. If you miscalculate, you can end up being the one killed.
