8 defenders, 7 mifielders of out of which 5 are defesive midfielders, and only six attackers, this is pathetic. Amodu plays only defensively unattractive footbal

Kanu is a match winner anyday anytime d@s y I support his inclusion 200%. We need a player who can hold d ball just 4 5seconds. dis 5seconds is always important in d last 15mins of evry match. Y wud coaches luv 2hav him play in d EPL.

Amodu is about to repeat what happened last nations cup. To me , i think that players like Yakubu, mikel, nwaneri are not suppose to be in this year list, even olofinjanna is not accurate in his passes nowadays.

How many times did Shittu played this year for Bolton? Last time i checked even Bolton has relegated him to team B. Dele is 100% better than the shit Shittu.

The following players should not be in the squad:
Danny Shittu, Nwankwo Kanu, Michael Eneramo and at least one of these four defensive midfielders: Dickson Etuhu, Sani Kaita, Yusuf Ayila, Oluwaseyi Olofinjana.

Dele Adeleye and the sole creative midfielder Femi Ajilore should be in the squad.

Apart from that we really need to try out midfielders. Maybe some of the younger players to choose from: Lukman Haruna or Rabiu Ibrahim, Dammit, not a lot to choose from,

the list have been submitted to caf, so stop crying over spilled milk, unless you have a provisional date with hayatu grin

firstly we tank God 4 d early list so d team can work on their pattern, but there some m lapses in dat team,in dat defence hw can amodu pick SHITTU, instead of ADELEYE,lets nw look dat right back OLUFEMI is better dan both picking by amodu d likes of ODIAH and YUSUF.also in our midfied full of defencieve no attacking dat can hold boy and make final passes. another one is our attacker they are okay except d MARTINS fitness dat we be d hope of OBASI y not dat ENERAMO.WELL all is well shall best of luck to amodu ,we go watch dem as usual but no tension.
Re: Nigeria Name 24 For Angola 2010 by justmax: 3:05pm On Jan 01, 2010
this are just the players naija has to offer may be just obodo missing what else can amodu do. we dont just have quality players anymore in naija. we need a revolution. we have to go back to the drawing boards and groom fresh players for the team. this is no team men,
Re: Nigeria Name 24 For Angola 2010 by mich02(m): 3:35pm On Jan 01, 2010
I see Nigeria wasting two years and Amodu loosing his job after the nations cup. How long does it take to build a team? We were headed somewhere in 2004, what happened? Sorry to say, but this team is useless. We shouldn't expect anything different from the qualifiers where we watched our Super Eagles from the edge of our chairs against lesser teams and ended up disliking the junior teams until they showed the had something to prove. My advice, "do not watch them with your hearts", or do you support anything that gives you emotional instability?
Re: Nigeria Name 24 For Angola 2010 by bonna4u(m): 6:03pm On Jan 01, 2010
Nobody'll be dropped from the 24 man squad. Kanu will simply continue from where he stopped during the qualifiers. ie joining the coaching crew. Ha ha, Hope he knows what he(AMODU) is doing. Wish them well. Eagles na we own sha.

So, any news on Martins? It was today that we were supposed to know if he passed the fitness test or not. Sadly, kickoff has a server issue. No info. cry
Re: Nigeria Name 24 For Angola 2010 by nas00(m): 7:20pm On Jan 01, 2010
The logic in amodu's selection is extremely hard to understand. A sensible Coach selects at least 2 players for every position, but Mr Amodu own na die! embarassed embarassed

1. Who substitutes who in defence? This selection is quite confusing

2. There's obviously no replacement for Mikel if he gets injured (him go cum dey manage Ayila or Kalu abi )

3. Why not include options like d King Osanga lad to create wing play? Osanga has average skill 'n makes nice crosses into the goal area. I see no correct wingers in that crazy lineup. We need to explore all avenues if we must win competitions. Going by this lineup, there shall be minimal wing play at d CAN, and this may spell disaster for Mr Amodu.

4. I would have also suggested the following inclusions: Rabiu Ibrahim (For mikel) and Dele Adeleye (for Nwaneri in central defence).
5. Btw, i still consider papillo useful in terms of discipline, experience and a physcic boost to the younger players in d squad. (d guy na player coach na! grin grin grin)

dele adeleye is better than all defenders enlisted here. am a footballer l no wht am saying
Re: Nigeria Name 24 For Angola 2010 by megacity: 11:24pm On Jan 01, 2010
Dele Adeleye should have been picked ahead of Shittu
Adefemi Olubayo ahead of Yusuf Mohammed
the last u-17 defensive midfielder ahead of Olofinjana
Jay Jay Okocha should have been persuaded to return and picked ahea of Yusuf Ayila. (Jay Jay, so good they named him twice!)

Re: Nigeria Name 24 For Angola 2010 by TrueSeeker(m): 2:04pm On Jan 02, 2010
Nigerian are too much talented, I think CAF should allow for more than 23 players, like 32 players, by then Amodu will be able to include the likes of Adeleye, Okoro, Rabiu, Osanga, Utakas, and the rest. grin grin grin
Re: Nigeria Name 24 For Angola 2010 by ow11(m): 2:25pm On Jan 02, 2010
I guess Amodu doesn't trust Obasi enough and Eneramo probably plays to instructions (a la Garba Lawal). The other problem I have is Shittu ahead of Adeleye. Shittu hasn't played much footie this season and is rumoured to be injured BUT we cannot question his commitment and mentality which is also a major ingredient in a team looking to win a trophy.

Yeah, Martins made the list even tho he is not going to be 100 percent fit. Same goes for Yobo, Shittu and Yusuf Mohammed.

I want to assume that Amodu knows what he is doing,,, but can someone explain to me why Chinedu Obasi was dropped?  undecided

He was dropped because Amodu suffers from the Oba-see syndrome. He can only see Obafemi Martins not Chinedu Obasi. grin

ol boy , if this amodu no look sharp he'll crash out of CAN early with this bogus defence and midfield. Sha if he fails , he'll open the door to an experienced gaffer , WIN-WIN undecided

Analysis of the team

Goalkeepers:
Vincent Enyeama - Our best keeper and very reliable.
Bamidele Aiyenugba - Penalty stop specialist and third choice.
Austin Ejide - Has given Enyeama a good competition for the no1 position. Good keeper.

Defenders:
Joseph Yobo - Our no1 defender, most experienced, very pacy. Suffers from lack of concentration sometimes but there is no chance or sense of him not being in the team.
Danny Shittu I would worry he has not played for a long while. I am surprised he made it over Adeleye (who I think is potentially one of our best defenders ever). But one thing Shittu puts in the team is heart, I normally see his commitment on the pitch.
Obinna Nwaneri - I have always seen him as mediocre, not too good, not too bad (as some people seem to postulate). This is another person I am surprised is making it over Adeleye.
Taye Taiwo - Another good player with lack of concentration. Hope he is learning his lesson since the Tunisia game. I hope Amodu does not play him in the first game just to punish him more, so when he finally gets on the pitch, he would play like if he is possessed. Also if we win our first 2 games, it would be nice to see him deployed as a Left Midfielder in the third game.
Elderson Echiejile - Another mediocre but at least a hard worker without much errors. Seems to be the second best left back we have.
Yusuf Muhammad - Only saw 15 mins of this guy against Tunisia or Mozambique in Abuja before he got injured, and I was very, very, very impressed. A player in the mold of Iroha back in the day. Takes on players easily and with immense bust of pace.
Chidi Odiah - Back in 2006, I used to call him Ronaldinho-in-defence due to his dribbling abilities. A very good wingback if fit (I have not seen him for a while). Definitely happy with him and Muhammad in RB position.
Onyekachi Apam - Good choice. The utility defender. Can play anywhere across the back, so would be very useful in case of any injury avalanche in defence during the tournament.

Midfielders:
Nwankwo Kanu - Still the only player we have that can change the course of a game. Brings inspiration, innovation and spark when introduced.
Mikel Obi - Can't afford to leave him out. Finally showed his mantle in Kenya, hope he can be consistent with that.
Dickson Etuhu - Can bring a bit of consistency in midfield as he is a regular in his club. I see him as mediocre, I wouldn't have been bothered if Ajilore was chosen ahead of him.
Sani Kaita - The only core DM in the team. Good defensive eye and rarely gets a card. Also he has bundles of energy.
Yusuf Ayila - He brings high level experience of playing at the top for many years and very useful in defence and occassionally attack. He can also play Centre Back if called to do so.
Oluwaseyi Olofinjana - Despite what many might say, I like him. He does the disruption job and can also play offensively. That said, he needs more grit in his game.
Kalu Uche - Good choice to further see if he can deliver for SE in the role of Offensive Midfielder. In case of injury he can also play supporting striker or if he is already on the pitch and we are changing tactics to a more attacking option then he limits our substitutional needs.

Strikers:
Yakubu Aiyegbeni - Our best goal poacher by a mile. He can also bring brawn against big defenders that the other attackers lack. Luckily he had lost a bit of weight the last game he played for Everton. Two more weeks of training should do the rest.
Osaze Odemwingie - Engine room and the magician. Can play attack, wings or right midfield.
Michael Eneramo - My guess is that this guy is selected as understudy to the Yak because I have not been too impressed. I would have preferred Obasi. Hopefully he would be replaced by Anichebe when he returns from injury.
Obinna Nsofor - Super sub. Power. Pace.
Obafemi Martins - Another big name that proved himself in Kenya. Pace and shot power would also be useful as potential goal source.

The only problem i have with the list is the inclusion of shittu ahead of adeleye. Not a good thing at all.

I hope after the nations cup, Amodu's going to invite Denis Oaogo. (Hamburg left back defender/midfielder)

@ Sagamite

I like your analysis.

However, I dont see any reason why a player like Obasi will be sacrificed just to accomodate an understudy in Enemaro. Makes no sense to me  undecided

With the number of mediocre defenders on parade in the SE, Dele Adeleye should walk into the team with his eyes closed. Another interesting omission if u ask me.

I agree with U, Utaka was dropped and rightly so.

So whatever happened to Joseph Akpala? He was on fire last season for his club.

Emerano was never on the watch list, he already got his automatic shirt (dunno why amodu like him that much), the watch list was between the 2 oba.

Apalla is a waste pipe jare, all he does is to run around like a homeless blind bee.

Hmmmm, interesting. I hope Amodu is right about his qualities cos I have watched him a couple of times and didnt see anything special.

Anyways, its still a shame to me that a bundle of skill like Obasi didnt make the final cut in this mediocre assemblage of players.

LOL @ Akpala. To be honest, never saw the dude in action. But he must have some potential as he was topping the charts in Belgium a season ago.
