HOW THEY QUALIFIED
South Africa qualified for the tournament as the host nation, claiming the only automatic spot available amongst the 16 teams. Originally Libya was scheduled to host this competition, but due to political instability and security fears, the north Africans were unable to welcome Africa's best national teams, and their hosting of the event will take place in 2017, exchanging with South Africa following the country's offer to host.

Coach: Gordon Igesund
Gordon Igesund took over the reins as coach of Bafana Bafana in June 2012, promising to change the face of South African football by improving the side's confidence and attitude towards the game. He has unrivalled local experience and has won Premier Soccer League (PSL) titles with four different clubs.

With excellent man-management skills and an ability to completely turnaround teams' fortunes, Igesund was the ideal choice for a Bafana Bafana side which was struggling on the pitch. He will be focusing all his attention on creating a positive atmosphere in the South African camp and preparing a compact group for the African Cup of Nations.

HOW THEY QUALIFIED
Angola had to come from behind in order to secure their place in the Afcon, going into their home tie against Zimbabwe 3–1 down on aggregate. Their crucial away goal in Harare, scored by Djalma Campos, meant that the Palancas Negras needed to score two goals in Luanda in order to gain entrance to the African showpiece. Manucho scored the two vital strikes in the first ten minutes and Angola was able to hang on to the 2-0 result and guarantee qualification with a 3-3 aggregate away goals result.

THE COACH - Gustavo Ferrin
Gustavo Ferrin was appointed head coach of Angola following Lito Vidigal’s disappointing 2012 Afcon campaign. Ferrin has ties with the youth set-up in Angola and he has been tasked with taking the team to the 2014 World Cup. The 53-year-old coach has enjoyed successful stints coaching international youth sides such as the Peru Under-17 and Uruguay U20 squads.

His first two games for Angola displayed the coaches ability to turn a team around. Following the Palancas Negras' crushing defeat to Zimbabwe, Ferrin inspired his players to rally and fight for a place in the Afcon. He will focus on discovering Angola’s talent and getting his side through a tough group which includes hosts South Africa, Morocco and Cape Verde.

HOW THEY QUALIFIED
Morocco sealed their place at the tournament in South Africa by eliminating Mozambique in the final round of Afcon qualifying. Although they lost in the first leg 2-0 in Maputo, the Atlas Lions were able to cancel out that disadvantage and secure their ticket to the 2013 Nations Cup by winning 4-0 in Morocco, completing a 4-2 aggregate victory over the southern Africans.

THE COACH - Rachid Taoussi
Rachid Taoussi was recently named as the new coach of the Moroccan national team, replacing Eric Gerets, who was sacked after his first-leg defeat by Mozambique in the final round of qualifying for the 2013 Afcon.

Taoussi has earned a great reputation in Morocco after winning a historic treble with Maghreb Fez last season, earning the club the African Federation Cup, the African Super Cup, and the Throne Cup. Taoussi is aiming to build a strong team by putting faith in the best local players and calling up Moroccans who are getting plenty game time in their European clubs.

HOW THEY QUALIFIED
Cape Verde have participated in eight Afcon qualifying campaigns since 1994, and they have finally booked their place for the first time at the 2013 Afcon finals, after a stunning 3-2 aggregate win over four-time champions Cameroon in the second round. The Blue Sharks kicked off their campaign with a 4-0 defeat of Madagascar in the first leg of the first round, before wrapping it up to 7-1 on aggregate in Praia, fuelling hopes for a historic qualification to the showpiece, but few would have imagined the positive ending to the story with the Indomitable Lions in their path.

THE COACH - Lucio Antunes
Lucio Antunes was appointed as coach in 2010 following the withdrawal of Joao de Deus, who managed the team for several years, working alongside Antunes and other local hands. Both men discovered a score of young talents for the outfit and created a stable group that had great focus on the future.

While assisting in the senior outfit, Antunes was assuming the post of head coach of the Under-21 team, whom he led to the 2009 Lusophone Games in Lisbon, going on to win the competition. The Cape Verde football authorities believe that the coach has a great knowledge of the Island’s football following his steady rise from the youth to the senior level, and he will be required to prove as much in South Africa.

This AFCON gonna be the best ever. We will see the best of football from all the teams that will be competing. This is because South Africa have world class stadiums with very good pitch unlike the artificial and unkept ones that have been used by other African countries for the AFCON. Anything can happen because every team will be at its best. AFCON 2013! Let's go!
