A physically abusive relationship is one in which one or both parties in the relationship intentionally use bodily contact or physical objects to inflict injury to the other party. According to a recent study, a mind-blowing 69 percent of women have been physically abused at one time or the other by an intimate partner. In a further breakdown, it has been reported that 85 percent of people that have suffered from physical abuse from their partners, 85 percent and 15 percent are men. Obviously, physically abusive relationships is something that we need to beam the searchlight on.
Here in Nigeria, we seem to have accepted physically abusive relationships as a norm and this appalling attitude has continued to put the lives of many people at risk.Traditionally, it is believed in many Nigerian societies that a man has a right to beat his wife, and if our young boys and girls continue to be brought up with this mentality, then one has to be really scared for the future.
