You can't reach Shehu Dikko. He does not have office or even house address. We can't keep playing these games. Stop using Nigerian factor to do business. LMC should make a statement so Nigerians will know why they have decided to stop the Nigerian Premier League. Nobody should destroy years of hard work and putting the league on the map. |
Re: Supersport Stops Broadcast Of Live NPFL Games by jbaba231: 3:44pm On Apr 21, 2017 |
as far as I am concerned dstv is not guilty let the Lmc come out and tell us why they breached the contract and all the 20te ams should remove super sports sign post in there stadiums. |

CFCman: And this is the underlying cause of the problem. African currencies have fallen against the dollar in recent times. Supersports pays for rights (including the NPFL rights) in dollars, while subscribers pay in African currencies. Subscribers across Africa are vehemently opposed to increased subscription fees, prompting DSTV to release a statement that they won't increase the fees this year, except in Nigeria and South Africa. They've increased subscription fees in Nigeria. DSTV/Multichoice is a business and they must cover their cost and make a profit, so something must give. So now they've cancelled their contracts with the Ghanaian football league (last year), Kenyan football league (a few weeks ago), Nigerian football league (today), Nigerian basketball league (a few weeks ago), etc. The good news is that other broadcasters are taking up those rights. Startimes has gotten the rights to the Ghanaian league and Kwese Sports took over the rights to both the male and female Nigerian basketball leagues (they also now have the rights to NBA matches in Africa). 3 Likes |

naptu2: Even the increase in their premium subscription to N15,000 might be an act of charity. They could have increased it to N20k sef. It's only a Nigerian satellite company in which Dangote, Otedola, Cosmos Maduka joint set up that would be able to afford the broadcast rights of those major sporting events. The satellite company may have 50 channels for its premium plan, and 20 for its basic plan. N10k and N5k could be the monthly subscription fees respectively only IF the value of the Naira continues to appreciate. 1 Like 1 Share |

Sapiosexuality: You're kidding right? I use dstv, funny thing is I rarely watch football yet I can't skip a month without subscription. Remove the less than 8 active football channels from DSTV and you still have over 60 channels other satellite like Consat can only dream of. We shouldn't even be mentioning Consat and other indigenous brands whenever DSTV is being discussed. Let's just face the fact pls... That plastic free to air nonsense Consat packed together cannot compete with DSTV in 20 years. DSTV has got the exclusive right to broadcast a lot of series, programmes like Big Brother Naija, etc.. Not to forget the "baddass" HD channels...lol, and the power of Dstv Explora. Nigeria can only keep dreaming, we just don't get it RIGHT no matter how hard we try. 1 Like |

Meanwhile, NTA signed a deal with the Nigerian National League, yesterday or two days ago, to show live NNL matches. (The NNL is one level below the NPFL). (I wonder if that's the breach of contract that Supersports is referring to) 1 Like |

Re: Supersport Stops Broadcast Of Live NPFL Games by SlyCharlie(m): 4:48pm On Apr 21, 2017 |
naptu2:It isn't. The rights to the NNL are sold differently.. . Some inside info tells me, it had to do with payments and currencies plus other logistics issues. . The NNL too is also on the verge of signing a deal with startimes for satellite tv coverage, maybe wit the exit of supersports from the Npfl, Startimes may be tempted to go for the Npfl rights instead. Don't forget Kwese Tv is also lurking somewhere... |

IamPatriotic:How many EPL matches do they show per weekend. The most is four Mr man, and the crowd is massive, even relegated Sunderland stands is always filled up. You want them to broadcast match from Bauchi live that has below 200 spectators? Or from the stadium where Enyimba is currently playing that has below 50 spectators per match? Bro think o, one day you go get business while you choose the one that earn you most (EPL) or the one that you are investing N6b annually and its not yield fruit, and the stupid people you are helping breached contract again? |

CFCman: So you think Dangote, Otedola and Cosmos Maduka will do charity too? If they can't profit from it, they won't near it. |
Re: Supersport Stops Broadcast Of Live NPFL Games by Nobody: 5:55pm On Apr 21, 2017 |
oyetpel:Of course, they won't do charity, but I doubt whether they would be as exploitative as DSTV. Even if Dangote's premium plan costs N10,500/ month, he will still make a profit. |
