How South African Company Produces Animal Feed Additive From Maggots by petsarena: 8:07pm On Apr 22, 2017
While researching the internet I happened to come across this South African innovative company that produces feed additive from worms in fact maggot. I was fascinated that I decided to share their success story with our audience.
This company known as Khepri Innovations Pty Ltd is a 100% black owned Biotechnology company established in 2012 and based in Gauteng South Africa.
They produce Khepri FF( wholedried insect), Khepri insect Meal and lately Khepri oil.

Khepri FF™( whole dried insect)
Khepri FF™ is simply de-hydrated larvae that are supplied in bulk to the pet food industry and small organic farmers. It can be fed to a number of insect eating reptiles and birds. It can also be used as a protein and energy source in formulated diets for monogastric animals like chickens, pigs and fish.

Khepri Meal™ consists of highly nutritious dried defatted larvae that are ground into a high protein meal
Khepri Meal™ Dark rich texture with a slightly nutty flavour. Product can be supplied pelleted, crushed or milled for blending into animal feeds.
Khepri Meal™ can be blended into a variety of animal feeds and used just like any other protein such as fishmeal its nearest nutritional equivalent. It is specifically useful for the feeding of monogastric animals including chickens, pigs and fish. The product is cheaper than conventional feed based on fish meal, reducing the cost of animal farming. The enterprise also produces compost that is sold to farmers to organically improve yields.

Preparation

The larvae is grown in decomposing waste like abattoir waste. They larvae are then harvested, sterilised and then dried under strict conditions at a very low heat to yield the highest quality protein. This protein source compares favourably with fish meal
