The transformation of classified adverts from what can only be traditionally achieved using the high-cost traditional means of communication before the venturing of the internet to today’s free ad listing sites that offers an all-inclusive platform for commerce, trade, investment and marketing has become the new business frontier like never before. Classifieds sites have become a global force and without mincing words, a colossal market substitute where technology is accepted and allowed to thrive.

In Nigeria, a nation with a rapidly increasing population and a strong middle class, classified sites have been very well accepted and have since its introduction been responsible for a sizable sum of inbound consumer goods, services and transactions in the e-commerce sphere. Most analyst would admit that Nigerians have steadily embraced technology and so have been the case for classifieds, safe for bottles-necks with internet penetration and some pockets of skepticism.

The Nigerian marketplace have been thriving, superfluously unique and very competitive. With thousands of ads posted weekly and hundreds of transactions completed daily across platforms, the classifieds domain here in Nigeria is in a state of autopilot. With little or no hindrance, it has become a colossus and a major source of income for many. The Nigerian classified ecosystem has thrived upon the service and bearing of four major platforms over the years, these platforms[ includes: Jiji, Postwanga, Olx & Mobofree.

In no particular order, let’s declassify them one after the other:

Jiji - Founded in Lagos in the year 2014, Jiji claims to be one of the fastest growing with an advanced security system. The platform can be easily known from its lemon / bright green brand color and as it is with every other marketplace player Jiji claims to offer its service free for user (Buyers and Sellers).

Postwanga.ng - Founded in the United Kingdom and berthed in Nigeria in the year 2016, Postwanga has rapidly become a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian marketplace. The platform is known for its leaf green and blue colors and claims to be a family-friendly classified site in that they ensure that ads are both adult and children friendly.

- Olx is another commendable player in the Nigerian marketplace. The platform is known for its white background and its purple, lemon and orange logo/tradename colors. Her Nigerian enterprise is part of a global chain in countries like India, Pakistan and South Africa.

Mobofree.com - Mobofree is another free ad listing classified site in the Nigerian classifieds ecosystem. Having showed up with a strong challenge they also can lay claim to a sizable market share. Known by its deep-grey and green colors, Mobofree also exists in six other African countries including India.

Lastly, the idea that Nigerians can exchanges their used items for cash, sell a completely new item to an online buyer, request services and even seek or post jobs using classifieds all for free is here to stay and it’s important we review and recommend those who deserve feedback for their hard work.
