Nigeria is a multicultural Nation, having a population of over 190.8m ; over 521 languages (though 3 of them are the most recognized: Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba). Multicultural diversity in Nigeria calls for inter-ethnic understanding. It's no gain saying that the more peoples of Nigeria understand their differences in all areas of their existence, the more peaceful and serene the country becomes. I urge you my people to use this medium to promote inter-cultural tolerance and not fight over no issue. Here is a bit of the Igbo culture: http://www.globbic.com/igbo-masquerade-festival/

No doubt, Nigeria is a multicultural country. With different peoples having various culture and traditions, it calls for mutual understanding among the peoples of Nigeria. This I believe would boost mutual tolerance and value. Deep root of Nigerian Culture and Traditions shows typical examples of common peace and tradition. If Nigerians are to understand their differences and true meaning of existence of one another, there will be peace in the land. Culture and traditions are an embodiment of core values. How do you understand your own culture? |

asuustrike2009: India, Ghana adopt common language? Which one? Which language would be acceptable to all as a common language: Hausa? Or Igbo? |

chijiblaze:Hausa would have being better but the other tribes wouldn't agree to it |

Hausa wouldn't click with us southerners. Yoruba's the most influential and it's a sweet language. But then a lot of afonjas would be getting high on their superiority complex. Pidgin's lingua franca enough. 2 Likes |

Nigeria should just cultivate a system similar to what's obtainable in Switzerland and Belgium; where there are different regions with different languages. Switzerland has a French region, Italian region, Romansh speaking region and the bulk of the country is in the German language region. Belgium has a Flemish (Dutch) speaking region, a French speaking (Wallonia) region and a tiny German speaking region. In Nigeria, we could make the northern part a Hausa speaking region; southwest: Yoruba language region and southeast: Igbo language region. The other minority groups (south-south) can choose between the two of Yoruba and Igbo. |
