Is it right for a Church to invite comedian to crack joke on the 'pulpit' ?

If your answer is no, then, give reasons.

Before now, I used to think structures were built for various reasons and that is why we name them after the purpose they are meant to serve. This recent 'madness' among churches where comedians are invited to perform during services and even on the altar is becoming alarming. Some do this to pull members and for other reasons. But to me, it is simply making mockery of the house of God. The church should not be in anyway a place of entertainment. It should be where ppl come and encounter God. Where they dialogue with God. Sometimes, you see that people's problem continue to increase simply because instead of communicating with God, they were busy laughing. You can invite a comedian to a church program, but I think it should be done outside the church building.
God deserves some respect from us.

From childhood to my present day grey hair, I have observed with keen interest the trend of churching in Nigeria.

Back then, people are scared of going to church because of simple sins they have committed like backbiting, quarrelling etc. And even when they successful attend Church service, the MESSAGE preached is like arrow right into the heart. You can not get a smiling face in the church. Sobering everywhere and even members will be hiding their head under the bench. The hymns and solos is sufficient to humble everyone in comformity to the Holy Bible.

Nowadays, the reverse is the case. False doctrines and false mode of worship. Inviting entertainment for a church gathering is akin to worshiping by 'mockery'.

It is defiling the pulpits to invite comedians and entertainment for church service.

Simple.

Problem is he is invited from somewhere. Are there no born again, spirit filled brethren among you who can do the job? Or you have terrorized all of them to silence. Why are you then surprised at the carnality those outsiders display? What were you expecting?

Truth is, several of them havent been saved talkless of knowing the Lord or being broken.

What is wrong with laughing? As long as it is in line with God's Word and glorifies God, why not?

But these comedians aught to be raised as ministers themselves, not just any believer.

See what great things some like bishop chikancy are already doing...

And because those people took comedy to wherever, then you thought it is good.

Can you go to the mosque and use Qua'ran and Mohammed to crack joke?

How dare you compare Christianity to Islam when Christianity is not a religion?

You simply do not understand the gospel.

What we are seeing today is what happened to some ancient churches some centuries back, when the church started losing credibility, they needed a means of attracting people rather than preaching, so what they did was to introduce music that are entertaining to the church. Then people had a reason to go to church other than preaching: to listen to some live performance and dance or perform.

That's the same thing with comedy going to churches now. The funny thing is that they will find a 'biblical reason' why it is not bad.

Our religious leaders have long lost the script for christianity and are formulating their own now.

No Becos the same people who cannot stand their pastor bring insulted for their crimes, have no regard for God
They fear and respect the Pastors more than God.

So cracking jokes with God's name is wrong, seeing that can't do it go their pastors even when they are wrong.

God said He will not hold people guiltless for taking His name in vain.

Exo 20:7
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

How dare you compare Christianity to Islam when Christianity is not a religion?

You simply do not understand the gospel.

Hi Donnie, you must understand, the Word of God says: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the POWER OF GOD to SALVATION to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16. Yes Christianity is not a religion, it is about a King and His kingdom. I just have a couple of questions for you:

- Does the entertainment brought on the pulpit have the power to save a man? What's the essence of laughing at church only to return with the issues you came to church with or return with something worse?
- As funny as Jesus was, He never cracked a joke. He said what He meant and meant what He said, that's why His words endure till now. We quote Jesus' words and demons are cast out. Can we quote the word of comedians to have those words powerful enough to drive out demons?

We're talking about real problems here and need real solutions. We have boko haram, unemployment, corruption, End SARS the list is endless. We need to get back to basics. To what Jesus and the Apostles laid down for us, to what the bible says, not go with what's trending. We need real power to solve real problems.

You must also remember Paul says: And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. 1Corinthians 2:4
- Can the entertainment by the comedians demonstrate the Spirit and power? If they can, let them ride on. If not, we're just joking to think the world will not run us over with what we're putting out. Why won't the world call us non-essential. During Covid-19, they opened banks, bars etc, but locked down the church because in their eyes, the church is a non-essential. Anyways, the things they locked down are the things that addressed themselves as non-essentials. For the way you dress is the way you'll be addressed. The true church will rise to profer solutions to this dying world. These ones will properly define what the Church is to the world such that when they think of the church, they'll think of solutions rather than non-essential.

1, Blow you the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD comes, for it is near at hand;
2, A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread on the mountains: a great people and a strong; there has not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
3, A fire devours before them; and behind them a flame burns: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yes, and nothing shall escape them.
4, The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
5, Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devours the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
6, Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.
7, They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
8, Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall on the sword, they shall not be wounded.
9, They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run on the wall, they shall climb up on the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.
10, The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
11, And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executes his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? - Joel 2:1-11

Finally For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. 1Corinthians 4:20. Power to effect changes on the earth.

it is right but at the end of the day the pastor is not the one controlling the pulpit. God is. And if God lets a pastor bring a comedian to the pulpit the message there is that the pulpit is a laughing stock. its time to go and seek for God somewhere else

This is weird. We don't criticize PREACHERS on the Pulpits no matter how disagreeable you're to his PREACHING. And you don't turn Prayer-Cults into THEATRES OF ABSURDITY.

Parables are Figures of Speech and Food for Thought. Your Preachings can be laden with euphemism as much as you please. The WORD of God which was at the Beginning is GOD & NO JOKE.
