Whereas they are kids from my home state, Imo that will score 135 and still not get admitted! Scored 543 back then but didn't get admitted because we were so many from Imo State who did very well that year, exceeding cut off mark was not a guarantee for admission but a classmate of mine from the old Gongola State scored 217 and got admitted into Federal government college, Ijaniki Lagos.

Nigeria should not delude herself into believing she is progressing but running around circles!

God bless Biafra.the land of the rising sun.i have a question for all those people attacking Biafran separatists,
(1) Do any of you sincerely believe that Nigeria have any positive future for the common man on the street?
(2) Does any of you honestly believe that in the event of buhari's death, that osibanjo would be allowed to ascend the post of the president going by the way he was initially prevented from attending national security meetings, the humiliation of tinubu especially during the last ondo state election, the northernisation of the government and the national security forces?
(3) can they honestly say that tinubu and his boys are more interested in the welfare of the average Yoruba man on the street than their personal pockets going by the heartless way they're forcing the poor from Lagos in their push to acquire more wealth?
(4) Do you honestly believe that the north would ever leave it's stranglehold on power and allow the country to be restructured for justice, progress, equality and fairness to exist
let us tell ourselves the truth, there's a reason we're here discussing about Nnamdi Kanu,it's because he has given the masses on the street the hope of a better future for their children and grand children, a dream which only the few privileged lot can still afford in this country.

Back then in my school, F.G.C Kaduna, had a classmate that did not understand English in JSS 1.
The only thing he knew in English language was- what is your name and where are you from
........... difficult to believe right? But that's what the quota system has turned the country to.

education has been soft on the northern partner of Nigeria.

not really becos of tribal supremacy, but mainly because they don't like going school... I guess

an average core northern believe western education is nothing compared to Islamic education..

And yet they say that the standard of education is falling.

Why won't it fall when a person that scored 9, 3, 2, 4, 12, 13, etc is given admission while one that scored 138 from Anambra in the same exam is not admitted.

This is very telling

Apparently, the northern elites have enshrined illiteracy amongst their subjects. They have constitutionally chained their people in mental slavery and moronic subservience as a tool to perpetuate their dynasties

Anybody who believes this is a fair deal, believes slavery is a fair deal. Until the almajiris wake up to the reality of their actual state, they will forever remain slaves to their elites up north

This is to encourage all those almajiri to go to school because they don't like going to school, the quota system has always been in place to help the north gain the education their region really needs. If no one goes through the OP post before reading, you could have thought that it's only the S'East that there cut off mark is high not knowing that all the southern states from East, West and South are as high as that, yet others are not shouting marginalization to everyone who cares to listen because it's very simple, the South is more inclined to Education than the north.

What does thus mean? That people from the lower score states are not as intelligent as their mates?

Yes and no. These scores reflect difficulty and rigor school expects. It doesn't mean that schools with lower cut are worse. In the case of SE the scores are higher but SW has best ranked schools overall.

The schools with extremely low cut off marks get bottom barrel talent if they accept all those scores. I could speculate they post you can get in with this score but if competition is beats you we'll take them.

one thing i know for sure is that, 'great men are ordinary men with extra-ordinary amount of determination'. There was a time when a particular region of this country claimed that they were ahead of others in education and the south East having fought a devastating civil war, there adversaries believing they will never come up again but sheer determination and the never dying spirit of an Igbo man,saw it get over every other region,as the fastest educating region.
Nigerians of other tribes must study the Igbo template, what are they doing right that the educationally disadvantaged states are not doing?what is there motivation?is it a cultural thing?etc.
Indeed if igbos can do it then others can equaly do it. Nigeria can get it right!

Those scores are not about the state where the schools are situated but they refer to state of origin. It means if you are from Anambra state and you scored 138 you will not get admitted whereas all you need is a score of 6 if your state of origin is Zamfara

These scores reflects the average performance of pupils from these states.

That's wrong. They should rather seek to teach and inspire their kids up north to better academic performance than place the bar so low.

Thanks for explaining that point about the scores. Those low cut of scores are terrible I agree they ought to do a better job preparing the kids through high school. I only argue that SE has highest cut of scores but they don't have the highest ranked universities in country. I put a top 20 list in initial post.

I didn't even realize there were different cutoff marks for males and females. I assume this is to encourage more girls to go to school which is good. The question needs to be asked about why those with lower scores are still not embracing the opportunity? What exactly is the barrier?

This is the hand work of the former minister of education, Prof. Ruqayat* ..What exactly is the message that useless policy is passing? Why make it tough for some states while others lazy around? at the end, those from the so called educationally less privileged states will go occupy the big positions in government office while those who struggled to scale through take the back seats. I weep for this country

Young man, you have got a point, yet we should be ashamed of that stupidd policy. This same people given a soft landing to attain western education end up bossing those who struggled so hard to scale through the high requirement to gain admission into secondary and higher institution in government offices. Those gworo chewing mallams won't even stay in office to work yet their promotion comes when due. This country will never move well until we do away with the useless quota system.

How many of the so called gworo chewing mallam do you see on those school on the first place, in the South, those that are so ready to go school are far more than the infrastructure available for them so they have to set up a high cut off mark so that only the best enter the government college, the rest could go to other schools, but right there in the north, those that wants to go to school are not as many as the infrastructure on ground so they have to find a way to encourage them to go to school, see Kaduna

Shege Jagua! cheesy grin cheesy

We need to understand the purpose of Unity Schools. The purpose is to bring Nigerian children from all over the country for them to live together, hoping that it will teach the children that they are all and the same. To achieve this aim, you need students from Every state. Even with the low cut off for the North, they don't fill their quota because they don't apply in enough number.

But has it achieved the purpose? Is it not rewarding the ineptitude of education managers in the North even after many decades of being tagged "educationally disadvantaged'?
