In the opinion of many Nigerians in the North, Ahmed Musa is a bona fide star, a true hero.

The fans are in awe of him; they even chant his name during games involving the Super Eagles of Nigeria and even mob him after matches, sometimes. They arrive in groups and make sure they have selfies with him before he proceeds down the tunnel.

When the national team’s security officials try to fend off the mobsters, Ahmed Musa would tell them to be gentle.

In June of 2015 during the Super eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Chad in Kaduna, fans chanted his name almost all through the match. At intervals, the speedster would stop to wave in acknowledgement.

This is the praise and recognition the former Kano Pillars man enjoys up north, like no other Nigerian footballer.

In the other quarter of the nation, it is different.

Many southerners are not sure where to place and in their minds always look for a fault. He is not adored and is usually looked at as another player picked on the basis of sentiments and should not even be on the call-up roaster for games. Such is the disdain they have for him. Sometimes, Ahmed’s pace let him down. Many times, Ahmed has lost control of the ball in trying to trick opposition.

Ahmed Musa burst into limelight in 2010 when he broke the 20-year old record in the Nigerian league with 18 goals to his name for Kano Pillars Football Club.

Ahmed Musa is known to be an early bird after Vincent Enyeama in reporting to training and preparation for games. The lad has not looked back since 2013 after the victorious 2013 Africa Cup of Nation under the Late Stephen Keshi.

The talent of the Jos-born forward has never been in doubt as he had maintained consistency in Europe with spells in Russia and England.

Ahmed is currently the longest-serving player in the super eagles and has never turned down an invitation to play for Nigeria as well as having no major scandal. Musa’s power on the pitch is still not one to forget in the future.
