A 40 - year - old resident of Ikotun, Lagos, Harrison Udoh , has been arrested after luring a 12 - year - old girl into a bush to rape her .

Saturday PUNCH learnt from details of the case , which was investigated by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, that the suspect had on a number of occasions , invited the girl into his home and “fondled her and rubbed his manhood against her private part. ”

According to the DSVRT Coordinator , Mrs . Titilola Vivour- Adeniyi , the agency was notified by a concerned neighbour who had been noticing how the girl went into Udoh ’s apartment each time .

She reportedly could not tell her parents out of fear of what they might do to her .

Vivour- Adeniyi said, “The mandated reporter told us she warned the girl after noticing her frequent visits to the perpetrator ’s apartment . However , on April 14 , Mr . Udoh signalled her to come and meet him in a bush close to the house.

“But she went to report to their landlady who advised her to go to him while they followed behind . He was caught while trying to assault the survivor right there in the bush. ”

After neighbours retrieved the girl and confronted Udoh , DSVRT and Child Protection Unit officers arrived the location to carry out further investigation .

But because the neighbours did not report the case to the police , Vivour- Adeniyi said her officials met Udoh as he was packing his things out of the apartment in order to flee .
He was then taken to the Family Support Unit of the Ikotun Police Division where he was detained for further investigation .

“The survivor was taken to the Rauf Aregbesola Primary Health Centre, one of the comprehensive PHCs where she was tested and given treatment . We commend the mandated reporter (neighbour who alerted authorities ) for ensuring that this case was duly reported and the girl ’s rights are adequately protected , ” Vivour-Adeniyi said.

On April 19 , Udoh was charged with sexual assault before the Ogba Magistrate’s Court .
He pleaded not guilty to two counts of indecent assault and defilement , which is contrary to sections 135 and 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State , 2011 .

The Magistrate, Mrs . Akanni at a point asked the suspect about the accusation against him and he said he only helped the girl while she was fetching water but never assaulted her .

He was later admitted to a N 250 ,000 bail with two sureties in like sum .
The case has been adjourned till May 22 , 2017 for mention.
