Guys hafa na.

Abeg na die I dey so oo. Earlier in the year, Feb precisely I got a direct Belgium lexus suv rx 330 v6 engine. oboi my joy was short lived as few months down na so so fuel I just dey buy. I am not exaggerating as I spend roughly 10k weekly on just fuel for the car. I reside in asaba, and work at onitsha so have to do the Niger bridge twice daily coupled with the traffic.

Guys abeg I don tire. people way don use this car na so the car dey do abi na fake I buy. More importantly what can be done to reduce the fuel consumption of this car before I wake up one morning and set this mob ablaze.
Major issue that can make a car to be drinking fuel like fish
1.0 Open loop conditions :engine coolant temperature runing perpetually too low due to thermostat removal and /or runing of fan direct.
2.0 Faulty air fuel sensor or O2 sensors also will make open loop condition.
3.0 Leak in intake system and exhaust .
4.0 Lean condition :Clogged fuel system and dirty intake system eg dirty air filter etc
5.0 Rich condition :faulty fuel regulator ,open loop conditions, stuck open evap system .
Look for a competent professional diagnostic shop to help you accurately pin point which of the above condition is affecting your car

Analysis

10k will give 68.9litres of fuel.

A one way trip from asaba to Onitsha would be upwards of 20km at least, might be more depending on where you are taking off from. That means an average of 40km commute daily.

The rx330 has a combined 19mpg for city and highway driving. This translates to 14.5l/100km which is about 7l/40km everyday.
This is the most conservative calculation in this circumstance.
Were you expecting the mpg of a corolla in a Lexus?

Am not really a car person myself but I know the basics. A 3.3l engine cannot be compared to a 1.8l corolla in terms of anything, fuel consumption inclusive. That's why it's advisable to know some basics before buying a car, otherwise maintenance becomes an issue.

You would need to calculate your average mileage and compare to the manufacturer's before you can decide your car guzzles fuel. If you do upwards of 50km everyday, then 10k (69litres of fuel) on an rx330 isn't a bad deal. If you feel it is, then it's time to sell it and buy a corolla

Please set your trip counter to zero or note the current odometer reading before the next time you go to work and note the value when you park at home at the end of the day, after the return journey; to know what your daily commute distance is.
Try and notice your average and top speed while on the highway is too.
With this we can calculate what your daily fuel consumption is.
#10,000/145= 68liters.
If you travel to work 5 days a week,
68liters/5days = 13.8liters per day
This (13.8liters) should be enough for over 100km as the online report says the car should consume 12.2liters per 100km.

Bros you never talk true. That car is sweet n i can bet you fire it up to dust all other cars on the highway. That means you guzzle fuel by accelerating heard. Except you are telling us that you drive like my grandmother.

You buy 10k fuel. Is the fuel station meter accurate? You might be buying 7500 fuel and the meter will read 10k. You have every cause to be alarmed but check your air filter as you were advised. We perform miracles in Lagos. Bring the Lexus and it will change to Corolla instantly. Corolla is a taxi cab and no basis of comparison with a Lexus

No need to laugh cos I am really serious. Until you hear that that engine is 450k and transmission is 450k then you'd know how serious it it.

The best way to start is to tell us how many miles you get on a full tank of fuel. You can do this by setting your trip A to 0 the next time you buy fuel.

Driving from Asaba to Onitsha is a distance (I can't pin it in kilometres) including traffic at the head bridge. Your RX330 is a 3.3 l V6 engine. You probably have a misplaced perception of its fuel consumption prior to purchasing the vehicle.

Substituting the engine with a Corolla engine will be more expensive for you as that will kill the vehicle. It will be greatly under-powered. Why not sale the RX330 & buy a Corolla? This RX is not mearnt for everyone. Normally, the RX330 is a luxury brand and consumes more fuel than an average car.

You can hardly achieve this Mpg in Nigeria because of a number of factors:
1. The quality of fuel imported into this country
2. Road conditions, a lot of pot-holes and craters which makes you brake very often & accelerate again
3. Traffic which limits your acceleration
4. Driving pattern, when you kick down to overtake or get up to speed affects your mpg and finally, to get that level of mpg, you have to maintain a constant speed of 100km/h or slightly less for a stretch more than 100 miles.

Oga you dey enjoy the very cold AC for traffic too and when road clear, you dey fire all the 6 cylinders ? No be corolla i4 be this o, this nah another level of fuel consumption machine......

Run a scan on the vehicle and perform a full service (if not already done )

U got to be kidding me. A Corolla engine on an rx330? Bros kukuma sell the Lexus and buy Corolla keep some change. I think ur fuel consumption is normal, driving in traffic with AC on and hot weather will increase fuel consumption. The 17mpg combined stated by the manufacturers don't always work in this country with the hot weather. And those calculations are normally done without ac on. Take the car out on a long trip on the highway and see the fuel consumption improve.

Your colleague drives a Toyota Harrier rebadged with Lexus logo. The RX330 never came in i4 unlike the Harrier. And it is not advisable to downgrade the engine.

Correction applied will depend on the issue .
you need to take the car to a competent mechanic that is skilled in diagnosis using live data to check the engine temperature ,fuel system condition ,intake leak etc
if you are in Lagos ,I recommend autologic @Gbagada (08061166316)

your car has an on board MPG counter, why don't you look at that and paste what average MPG reading you are getting?

The normal reading as someone said earlier is 17 city driving and 21 highway. (or something similar, and with your check engine light off)

Getting 17 city in hot weather with ac on, stop and go traffic and the quality of fuel sold here is impossible. Under very hot conditions, AC use can reduce a conventional vehicle's fuel economy by more than 25%, particularly on short trips.

Re: My Rx330 Gozzles Fuel. by joshua1980: 5:13am On Mar 07, 2019
lexus are fuel economical. if fuel consumption surface on the car then there are somethings that can cause that if you are not careful you will end up with wrong mechanic and end the life of the car.
if the car accelerate well and no misfiring on the engine and it consume fuel then you have to check your oxygen sensor, you might not get it from the diagnosis machine because the sensor has not finally gone bad there are still current flow up to 0.09 -0.10 in the case it will not b easily detected from the machine all you need to do is to go to the sensor 1, 2, and 3 and loose each and test by connecting the sensor and hold it on your hand and start the engine if the sensor get hot very well that your hand can not hold then that one its ok but if any one of the sensor is not hot then u need to replace it. only one of the sensor can finish your fuel in short time interval.
those sensors are located on the exhaust
