Advocacy for women with disabilities Initiative (AWWDI) was founded by Patience Ogolo Dickson in 2009. As a woman with disability, she was able to identify women like herself who came together to start this great organization.



AWWDI advocates for the rights ofwomen and girls with disabilities, for their inclusion in all national policies, programs and activities. AWWDI operates nationwide and currently has presence in over fifty (50) communities across the country. AWWDI works with women with disabilities, their families, local and development partners including the government, faith-based organisations, alliance partners, women groups, other NGOs and Organisations of People with Disabilities (OPDs).

It also works to network and form alliances with international organizations to carry out activities that lead to the advancement of women and girls with disabilities.

From 2009; AWWDI has implemented many projects including those in the area of gender, vocational skills, income and livelihoods projects, others are: capacity building, advocacy and building micro finance.
Vocational Training
AWWDI identifies six (6) main categories of disability namely;

 Hearing & hard of hearing

 Visually Impaired

 Physically challenged

 Women affected by leprosy

 Women with HIV/AIDS

 Women with obstetric Fistula (OF)

With a vision to empower women with disabilities to be self sustaining and become ADVOCATES for themselves and others AWWDI has done a lot of work to improve the lives of the disabled women in Nigeria.
