A new outbreak of Ebola virus in Congo has been announced and
Nigeria must again look to her borders to make sure this time around the disease does not find easy access into the country.

On the 12 th of May 2017, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) received formal notification from the World Health Organization of an outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

One would have thought that after the Ebola outbreak in 2014 those of us who saw its reign would not again experience the menace in our lifetime.

But alas! The Ebola outbreak in Congo is telling us that the containment of any disease can only be made possible through deliberate
health measures and not through wishful thinking and prayers alone.

Meanwhile, the Honourable Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole has this to say.

“Nigerians are urged not to panic as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control is equipped to secure the health of citizens. The agency has for a while now, been strengthening states capacities to detect, manage and respond to haemorrhagic fevers including Lassa fever.”
