shocked Na whaooo.

Most of these houses are new ones or the one under construction.

Most old houses still stand the test of time. It's not by force to build house, if you don't have enough to build one don't build. Keep renting till you have enough to build.

What is actually happening in this country? Is it the fault of the engineers or what?
Re: Another Two-storey Building Collapses In Lagos by updatesflow: 7:11am On May 21, 2017
What about the country? I guess the buildings are now reacting to recession. See what a jealous wife did to her husband for marrying another wife http://www.updatesflow.tk/2017/05/see-what-jealous-wife-did-to-her.html

There needs to be a probe on the building materials being used including cement.

Are the contractors sourcing enferior cement?

Re: Another Two-storey Building Collapses In Lagos by Reference(m): 7:26am On May 21, 2017
That is old Lagos. Most buildings in those areas are are upwards of 50 years old with very little work on them ever since. The general perception is that buildings don't require routine maintenance to remain standing but the reality is that every component of a building has a lifespan and begins to degrade from the moment it is installed. Steel rebar oxidises in concrete and thins out, the concrete itself is under thermal and load stress and in coastal regions such as Lagos salt in the air combines with water to granulate cement not to talk about ground water movement.

These incidences will only increase with time. Unfortunately unlike in the west where the richest own the oldest stuff, in Nigeria the poorest own the oldest and they will be victims. My suggestion in the face of this quagmire is for owners of really old buildings to sell them to developers, take the cash and build new ones. If you cannot maintain or renovate properly, your life and.the lives of others are in jeopardy.

Building with sub-standard materials coupled with quacks in the construction industry are the main causes of this collapse. SON should swing into action here!

We live in the tropics which is a paradise for insects and microbes. What you offer is food for them. Porous bricks to let them in and enough cellulose for a termite orgy...and with insects come lizards and with lizards come snakes and with snakes come all those useless threads. I am currently in a village and the house I stay has something running around in the ceiling. This is the draw back wood presents.

Took a picture of a house in Abeokuta when I visited, it was built in 1934 and it was written on it. A storey building o.
The houses around it were as much old.
In England, some houses are 2 centuries old

These frequent collapse of buildings in Lagos need to be investigated. Perhaps, there are more underlying reasons other than use of substandard materials or poor workmanship.
