He has been in charge of small clubs and keeps succeeding, he plays a better brand of football than most EPL teams despite the limited resources. So Thursday night pain you but you can call PEP and all barca coaches mediocres, yet both enrique and pep has a champions league winners medal while you so called super wenger doesn't even have a plastic replica, bottom line is this, don't Underrate people cos you don't know how great they can be, when pep was appointed you people said he will fail, went on to win the treble in the first season same with enrique. Whether he played the game or not is irrelevant, the fact is Bilbao signed players before winning the Super cup. Year in year out Valverde signed players that were instrumental to his success.

FC Barcelona has released a statement on Monday to announce that the former Athletic Club boss will take over from at Camp Nou this summer.

The Catalan Club confirmed that Ernesto Valverde will be their new coach for the 2017-18 season.

The 53-year-old stepped down after four seasons in a second spell at Athletic Club last week and was widely expected to take over from Luis Enrique this summer.

Barca had promised an announcement after the Copa del Rey final and a statement on Monday confirmed Valverde as the new coach on a two-year deal.

“I have spoken personally with Ernesto Valverde and I told him of our decision,” said club president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

“He said he is very excited and very happy, that it’s a great challenge to come in as head coach of Barca.

In other news, Barca has also unveiled its 2017/18 Home kit earlier today.

Three things Ernesto valverde's got going for him as he lands the biggest managerial job in the world:
1. He is a former barca player. That puts him in favour with the fans.
2. He is a not-too-big personality. The personalities of MSN is already larger than life. The clash of ego would be disastrous for the club.
3. He's proven himself before albeit in smaller jobs with Olympiakos, Valencia and most recently Athletic Bibao.

Verdict: If he can fill the all too important position of right back and get a successor for iniesta preferably Coutinho, he shld be off to a smooth ride. Fingers crossed. Patiently optimistic. Viva Barca!
