The Difference Between Electricity Consumers In Nigeria by RapportNaija(m): 1:51pm On Jun 11, 2017 |
Following the news that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has directed electric MD consumers not provided with prepared meters by March 1 to stop paying for electric bills presented by Distribution Companies (DISCOs) on the basis of estimated billing methodology. ( https://www.nairaland.com/3853577/nerc-directs-nigerians-without-prepaid ), I think it would be nice for all Nairalanders to know the difference between electric consumers in Nigeria. -------------------------------------------- The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commissions provides a range of customer who falls under tariff classes which the Discos bill on a monthly basis and periodically for customers with prepaid meters. The classes are divided between residential customers, commercial customers, industrial customers, government agencies, religious bodies and street lights. However, there are two main groups of electricity customers in Nigeria namely the Maximum Demand Customers (MD) and the non-Maximum Demand Customers (Non-MD). The major difference between MD and Non-MD customers is that the MD customers have their own individual transformers. For example, a bank or estate with a dedicated transformer is an MD customer. Unlike Non-MD customers who share transformers with communities. Non-MD customers typically pay higher fixed charges. Here are their breakdowns and codes: MD CUSTOMER CLASS R3 Small estate, government houses, C2 Hotels, banks C3 large supermarkets, hypermarkets D2 Large scale industrials, Metal companies D3 Oil companies, large construction companies A1 Schools, Churches and Mosques A2 Medium size barracks A3 Large barracks, large Agricultural processing companies S1 Street lights Non-MD R1 Customers with consumption below 50 kilowatt R2 Customers with consumption above50 kilowatt C1 Small businesses e.g. small barbing and hairdressing saloons C2 Hotels D1 Small industries e.g. welders, pure water companies D2 Large Scale Industries, Metal companies A1 Schools, Churches and Mosques Source: http://www.rapportnaija.com/2017/06/Difference-electricity-customers-nigeria.html CC Lalasticlala Mynd44 |
