A non-governmental organisation, Dixcover Youths Network has organised a youth empowerment and entrepreneurship programme for the students of University of Ilorin, UNILORIN.

Dixcover Youths Network is an NGO saddled with responsibility of helping youths discover themselves as well as help them in realisation of their dreams.

The programme held on Saturday 3rd June 2017, at featured lectures on youths development, skill acquisition, and entrepreneurial development.

In his lecture, Mr. Tobi Abdulbasit, a first class graduate of the institution enjoined the students to fully engage in one or two entrepreneurial programme, and use the University as a tool to assist them in their business.

He stated further that the students should not depend on the certificates but add valuable skills to the knowledge they attain on campus.

He made instances of his class which had about 250 students who graduated, out of which four are first class and Twenty One are second class upper but not up to Ten of them are currently employed.

On how to combine business with academics while on campus, he advised the students to be gradual in their approach, make education their priority and do business on the sidelines.

The founder of the foundation Lawal Abdullateef, who is also an alumni of University of Ilorin department of Chemistry, charged the students to create their own future and stop depending on failing certificates.

He informed the students that there are more than Ten million graduates who are roaming on the street with their certificates searching for white collar jobs, he warned that if care is not taken in the next ten years we shall have more poor graduates and more rich illiterates.

The programme also featured training the students on how to produce Liquid soap, Air freshener, Izal, Yogurt and some vocational activities.

The President of Students Chemical Society of Nigeria, SCSN, Unilorin chapter, Afolabi Habeeb, who is advised his fellow students to take the training serious and ensure they make use of the training to start a business.
