Outrage As CRK Is Removed From Secondary School Curriculum; Angry Suleman Reacts by Driftingking(m): 3:11pm On Jun 18, 2017
President of the Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has expressed outrage at the removal of Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) as a subject of study from the secondary school curriculum, describing it as a move by President Muhammadu Buhari to Islamise Nigeria.

Recall that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) complained about the development during its meeting with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The delegation led by its President, Rev Dr Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, also listed demands on the matter and other burning issues in a letter delivered to Osinbajo.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Phrank Shaibu, spokesman of the church, Apostle Suleman, stated that the decision to scrap CRK as a subject in the curriculum but only to be studied as a theme in civic education while leaving Islamic/Arabic studies as a subject to be studied in the secondary school curriculum, is a deliberate plot by the Buhari administration, among other schemes, eliminate Christianity or at best reduce it to insignificance in Nigeria.

“The new curriculum which is the brain-child of the Nigerian Educational Research Council and which is mischievously crafted to force Islamic Studies down the throat of non adherents is unjust, discriminatory, a subtle attempt at islamization, and therefore unacceptable,” the statement said.

“This is a well orchestrated and articulated plot. Let nobody try to fool Nigerians that it was a mistake or a coincidence. Why is it that CRK would be removed as a subject to be studied from the secondary school school curriculum while Islamic/Arabic studies is retained? This is a plan from hell and it shall not stand”, he declared.

Apostle Suleman also noted that the policy has been introduced at a time when Fulani herdsmen are on rampage in parts of the country and just before so called Arewa youths gave Igbo people living in the North to quit before October 1.

“Over 7000 people have been killed by these Fulani herdsmen with our security forces unable to stop the bloodshed. So called Arewa youths backed by some discredited elders have also issued a treasonable ultimatum to Igbo people without any reprisals from the Buhari government. So, is it a coincidence that Christian Religious Knowledge has been expunged from the school curriculum?” he queried
.

Apostle Suleman called on the Federal Government to reverse the “offensive” policy and immediately restore Christian Religious Knowledge to the curriculum while commending the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for being at the forefront of seeking to redress the anomaly.

This evil policy must be reversed immediately. What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Christain Religious Knowledge (CRK) must be restored to the school curriculum. And I’m happy that the CAN has taken up the battle to ensure that those who seek to banish our faith do not succeed. We will continue to speak out until satan and his agents are put to shame”, he declared.
Similarly, he called on the government to stem the tide of consistent attacks by Fulani herdsmen as well as deal with those giving ultimatum to people from an ethnic group to vacate the north.

“For long, Fulani herdsmen continue to kill, rape and burn people’s homes without restraint. In the event that the safety of an ethnic group cannot be guaranteed in any part of the country, then Nigerians should know that it is not a coincidence. And my God shall not fold arms while the devil and his children seek to destroy the destiny of Nigeria”, he declared.

“We have the strength of character, the courage and the conviction to mount a sustained campaign in defence of justice, and in defence of our religion. We will not give up our religious practice because of someone else’. Nigeria belongs to us all and not for a few bigots who currently occupy positions of authority,” the cleric added.

It seems unlikely that anyone would be stupid enough to remove the acting president's religion, which is the religion of the majority of educated people, from the curriculum while leaving others in. Perhaps the news is wrong.

The rat outside can only accomplish its task with the help of the rat inside. The question is, "are all members of the curriculum body muslims?" What were the christians in the committee doing while all these were going on?

The Nigerian government revised the 9- Year Basic Education Curriculum in 2012 in line with global best practices as in Kenya -7 subject, Tanzania- 8 subject, United States of America -6 subject, Malaysia and Indonesia -9 subject offerings. The curriculum revision process involved identification and grouping of related disciplines such as Christian Religious Studies/ Islamic Studies, Social Studies, Civic Education, and Security Education to create a new composite or cluster of Revised BEC subject called Religion and National Values. Key concepts in the former curricula now form integrating threads for organizing the contents of the new subject into a coherent whole. The Revised BEC comprises ten (10) subjects namely:

1. English Studies,
2. Mathematics,
3. Basic Science and Technology,
4. Religion and National Values,
5. Cultural and Creative Arts
6. Business Studies,
7. Nigerian Languages,
8. Pre-vocational Studies,
9. French,
10. Arabic.

As pointed out above, these revisions were made in 2012 when Goodluck Jonathan was the president of Nigeria. It is therefore very surprising that some men of God who are drawn to sensationalism are accusing the Buhari government of being the architects of this revision and accusing same of planning to Islamize Nigeria. How can you accuse a man who became president in 2015 of being responsible for what was designed and implemented in 2012? If only this category of ”men of God” can just stay out of politics and face their calling as preachers, much of the tension that they create with their utterances will be avoided. But even if they must speak, it behooves on them to do their research well before making utterances.

Curiously no single Imam cried out when the federal government headed by a supposed Christian did this review. Neither did CAN or any pastor for that matter say anything about it. All of a sudden three years later everyone seems to have woken up from their slumber. This is really very pathetic. From the foregoing, it looks like these men of God seem to believe that it is what students learn at school that predominantly makes them good Christians or not but I beg to differ. The school syllabus for Religious studies only contains bible stories or historical events in the bible. The subject only made us to cram and recite the Ten Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer and the golden rule. The real Christians principles that we hold dear today were taught in church and in our homes.

The school can never be a substitute to the church and the family. So instead of prying into politics and school curricular these men of God should focus attention on using the church and the family unit as the bedrock of building up children because when it is all said and done, a child is a combination of the training he gets both at school and at home. We cannot control what happens at school but we can control what happens in church and at home. The earlier we start doing more of the training at home and in church the better. Those who want to argue can argue. I don talk my own. Let us stop making the church a part of our victim mentality. Nobody can Islamize Nigeria.

- Prince Tony Ogbetere.

Can anyone explain why Arabic deserves to be on that list? Even French barely deserves to be there, not to mention Arabic. There is no non-religious reason for an average student to learn Arabic, as far as I know.

CRK And IRK was merged together, none was removed! and Arabic is a language just like French. and please note that it is optional. also just as someone up there pointed out, this syllabus was designed during Jonathan regime. so if you have any beef with it please direct it to our ex president.

At the risk of being called an Islamist (someone whose family has been Christian for at least 100 years...grin).

1.Arabic is a widely spoken international language.

2.Arabic is not only spoken by Muslims..it is also spoken by non-Muslim Arabs too. Lots of Arab Christians speak Arabic

3.Arabic is one of six lingua franca of the UN.

Anyway...I think that French should be prioritized even more...and Chinese too(China will soon take over the world grin)
