Two Poems From My Teenager Days by javaprince(m): 10:54am On Jan 26, 2010
Background Information:

After writing WAEC back in 2001, I used to accompany my Dad to work and play on his system back then,
I got myself writing three poems(not sure exactly if its a poem - just creative writing), used them to practice typing and learn to use MS Office.

Well am posting it in its original form for your perusal, corrections and suggestions, hoping you could point back on how to discover/improve "my" literary form.

Their titles are :

i) Monday Morning
ii) Baby Boy
ii) Love Story (can't find this one again).

Thanks for reading and please do comment/criticise.

Monday Morning

I woke up lazily one morning
hearing chattering of people outside the apartment
confirming that today was another weekday
checking the date in my worn out calendar
I discovered it was a , ,
Oh My God I yelled
how could I wake up late today of all days?
a day largely respected by both junior and senior workers
a day which both minor and major roads were filled
with vehicles of all brands and men of all colors
a day whereby the petrol stations made their highest sales
a day that the laziest traffic man had to do his duty
how could I a bloody junior civil servant wake up late today?

Quickly I had my bath and dressed up hurriedly
not until i reached the bus stop before I discovered
my tie was facing the wrong direction
I boarded a bus going to Ikeja
the bus moved slower than a tortoise
I peeped out to see what was delaying it
lying before us stood the longest traffic
when the hell would I arrive at work? I thought
the bus finally arrived at my destination
I ran like a mad man into the office sweating profusely
I wondered how many queries I would receive
As I was still thinking
a young female colleague said; you're late on a Monday
Damn Today, Damn Monday! I yelled

Baby Boy

My Baby Boy

I sat down in the hospital
waiting for the good news to be broken
praying and wishing for a safe delivery
only if it could be successful
i would love the baby with all my heart
care for all his necessities and need
play with it twenty-seven hours a day
caressing it and ", ",

a loud cry broke into my thoughts
confirming the delivery had gone right
the doctor coming out with a smile on his face
knowing fully well the deceitful nature of doctors
i asked for the safety of the mother and the baby
yes, he replied
after satisfying, that aspect
I asked the most common question
Is it a boy or girl? A boy he replied
A pang of joy swept me
now my friends would call me Baba TomBoy

two days to the naming ceremony
i was still battling for a name to call him
every name I thought didnt seem fit
it was my wife that finally bailed me out

baby and mum were soon discharged
small eyes, mouth, noise, hands, legs, name it
he robbed me of my darling's time
always interrupting our lovely nights
caressing the breasts that gave me comfort
it took me less than a week before I bought him a breast-pump
but to my uttermost disappointment, he refused it
looking at him mockingly, i thought
after a year all this your twaddling would stop

the more my baby boy grew,
the more my love grew for him,
in matter of months we became my best friend
always jumping and playing with me
it was my wife that felt jealous now
and to my chagrin his first words were:
DADDY

Smiling @ My Baby Boy. It actually made me laugh.

Technically your poems are not poems in the actual sense of the word. But poetry is so flexible you could actually get away with your unique style (Which is more like storytelling. Not bad overall. Kudos.

Thanks, I'll begin to make more conscious efforts to make my "poems" look more like poems technically, hope you'll be around to review it.

I loved baby boy. madean's right, youve got a narrative style of writing poetry that could pass for story telling. While peotry is ideas passed in cloaked words,it doesn't have to be hard to understand either.Just strike a balance between the two and you will find your ground.I used to write the way you do untill i started reading shakespeare. That dude changed the way I wrote poetry forever! Keep it up!
