The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Youth development, Hon. Innocent Esewezie, has called on youths to shun social vices, cultism and anything that will portray them in bad light.
The former Local Government Chairman made this remark during a program titled "Beauty and Balance, The Pride of Ibusa Youths" which was organised by Ibusa Youth Council and the National Association of Ibusa Students, in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Youth development.
The event was well attended by prominent sons and daughters of Ibusa, including HRH. Prof. Louis Nwaoboshi, the Obuzor of Ibusa, Hon. Mrs Princess Pat Ajudua, member representing Oshimili North at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Austin Izagbo, President of Ibusa Community Development Union, amongst other.
Hon. Esewezie thanked God for the day's success, he advised the youths to reject cultism, he said the effect of joining cult had both physical and spiritual effect.
"First of all, I give God all the thanks for a good climate, and for making today a reality. I also appreciate Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State for giving us this platform and for believing and investing in the youths and their future.
"We organised this programme to discourage the youths from going into social vices. To discourage them from going into things that will hurt or harm their future. So it is for the youths and the future of Ibusa," he said.
Encouraging the youths to emulate Governor Okowa, he said "They should carry themselves well and become role models, ambassadors of Ibusa, ambassadors of Delta State and ambassadors of Nigeria. They should desist from cultism, desist from anything that will stain the image of the community. Tomorrow belongs to them, it's how they carry themselves today, that's how they will be addressed tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Hon. Ajudua said "if you are a youth and you don't do what God ask from you, it means you're not balanced." She called for peace in the community starting from the youths.
Also speaking to Universal Reporter, Sir Isoh Alfred, the President General of Ibusa Youths Council (IYC), urged youths to "face their school and also make sure they are creative," he said. He appreciated the Obuzor, IYC executives, Hon. Esewezie and NAIBS for the success of the programme.
Olimma Juliet emerged the winner of Miss Ibusa pageant, while Nwadei Nnamdi won in the male category. They expressed their joy at their success at the event.
