An Open Letter To The Presidency On The Nysc Scheme by actElijah: 10:56am On Jun 28, 2017 |
28th June, 2017 AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENCY ON THE NYSC SCHEME By Olaoluwa Babatunde, The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, I join other well meaning Nigerians to salute your courage and to pray for the recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari’s health. Sir, with the NYSC, our country has its youngest and arguably the brightest minds on a single platform, to do with, anything we so desire- an opportunity which must be exhaustively explored. In line with one of the major objectives of the scheme as clearly spelt out in the NYSC ACT, which is to achieve the “Development of the Nigerian youth and Nigeria into a great and dynamic economy,” I make the following propositions: 1. LEADERSHIP: Although the NYSC was instituted under a military government, I believe by now it should have less military involvement. We need technocrats: Human Resource experts and professionals to run the affairs of the scheme. 2. POSTING: Corps members should be posted strictly to places where they will be relevant considering their professional skills and areas of interest. Interests and expectations of prospective corps members should be assessed during registration and postings to Primary Places of Assignments and Community Development Service (CDS) groups should be based on this. 3. INTERVENTION PROJECTS: Corps members can be deployed to work (in groups) on specific intervention projects, relevant to the local communities of deployment and the larger society. This could serve as their primary assignment for the year under appropriate supervision. They could help in areas of research also. 4. PRIVATE SECTOR INVOLVEMENT: The private sector should be better integrated into the NYSC scheme in terms of empowerment, internships and project funding. This proposal only summarizes a robust roadmap for reviving the NYSC scheme, further details are available in writing. Thank you Mr. President. God bless you sir, God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Faithfully, Olaoluwa Babatunde, www.olaoluwaelijah.com olaoluwaelijah@gmail.com |
