No fewer than two persons were feared dead on Thursday, while many were injured following a clash between Odo-Owa and Ilofa communities in the Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that trouble started when the Olota of Odo-Owa, Oba Adeyemi Adimula, led his community during their new yam festival to Odo-Owa Market, which was also used by Oke-Ero community.

It was learnt that Oke-Ero community prevented the Odo-Owa people from celebrating in the market, which led to the clash.

Another source said the crisis was caused by a disagreement over sale of yams.

It was gathered that the aides of the Alofa of Ilofa, Oba Niyi Dada, wanted to sell the monarch’s yams before anyone else in the market. Members of Odo-Owa community reportedly prevented Alofa’s aides.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the clash, adding that he had no information of the death.

Okasanmi said, “There was a misunderstanding between the two communities over a market. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lawan Ado, had deployed policemen in the area.”

Is this how they are going to be killing themselves in their odudua republic....

From ritual killings to communal crisis...just because of ordinary yams.

So much hunger in the land
