5 Street Meals Lagosians Love

For some people in Lagos, the time and luxury to sit in a place and have a ‘proper meal’ is rarely available. There is therefore a need to go for quick food that can be consumed in a jiffy. While some are ideal in the morning, others have become synonymous with evening delight. Check out these five food that Lagosians enjoy on the run.

Gala And La casera

This is a common combination that is a favorite amongst commuters. It’s a good choice for breakfast or brunch. It’s a common sight to see hawkers passing sausage and drinks to commuters through the window. Some Lagosians have practically made it a must eat choice every day. You can finish it in the vehicle very quickly and move on with the day;s work.

Puff Puff And Nigerian Buns

While puff puff is the soft deep fried brown dough, Buns isa bit rusty on the outside. These foods have been one of Lagosians; easy meal. It is prepared outdoor and usually served in a newspaper or nylon. Best enjoyed when served hot, both are ideal for afternoon or evening meals.

Akara And Fried Yam/ Fried Potato

Fried akara goes with bread, pap, millet, garri, etc. but the commonest combination on the street is with fried yam or potato. It is served and wrapped in a newspaper and convenient to take home or at eat on the run. Some people prefer a little pepper with it. It’s preferable in the evening or night by Lagosians.

Roasted Maize And Groundnut/Boiled Maize And Ube Or Coconut

Whether roasted or boiled, Lagosians love maize. It’s a ‘corbful’ of delight and an easy meal that is favorite for brunch or in the evening. For some, it’s a very to reduce hunger very quickly and move on until the opportunity comes to have a proper meal. It is prepared outdoor too and served in a nylon or newspaper.

Suya And….Anything!

It wont be fair not to include the favorite skewered meat that is roasted and served in a newspaper. Its an evening selection that is spiced with chili onion and sometimes, seasoning. It is usually prepared and sold by the Hausa people in Lagos and a choice appetizer for some people. You suddenly wake up around 10pm and all the restaurants are closed. The Hausa man is still waiting and ready to sell. It goes with garri, bread, noodles or sometimes alone.
