Glossary Accident / Damage Indicator CARFAXreceives information about accidents and other damage in all 50 states, theDistrict of Columbia andCanada. Different information in a vehicle's history can indicate an accident or damage, such as: salvage auction, fire damage, police-reported accident, crash test vehicle, damage disclosure, collision repair facility and automotive recycler records. Not all damage is caused by an accident. Some damage could be caused by events such as vandalism, hail, water or fire. Not every accident or damage event is reported and not all reported are provided toCARFAX. Details about the accident or damage event when reported toCARFAX(e.g. severity, impact location, airbag deployment) are included on the VehicleHistory Report. CARFAX recommends you obtain a vehicle inspection fromyour dealer or an independent mechanic. According to theNational Safety Council, Injury Facts, 2015 edition, 8%of the 254 million registered vehicles in the U.S. were involved in an accident in 2013. Over 74%of thesewere considered minor or moderate. CARFAXdepends on many sources for its accident / damage data. CARFAXcan only report what is in our database on 7/4/17 at 1:42:51 PM(EDT). New datawill result in a change to this report. GeorgiaDamage Reports: Provide an estimate of the extent of damage in its accident reports for the following: EXTENSIVE: The accident damagewas major and may affect the operation of the vehicle. This level of damage often results in a Salvage or Junk title. FIRE: The accident damage to the vehicle resulted in a fire. MODERATE: The accident damage is moderate and may affect the operation of the vehicle and/or its parts. Examples include brokenwindows, trunk lids, doors, bumpers and tires. MINOR/ SLIGHT: The accident damage does not affect the operation of the vehicle. Examples include dented bumpers, fenders, grills and body panels. This level of accident should not compromise vehicle safety. NODAMAGE: The vehiclewas not damaged. Are required if the estimated damage exceeds $500 Airbag Deployment Occurs when the driver, passenger or side airbag has been used or deployed during a crash or other incident. If an airbag has been deployed, it must be replaced by a qualified technician. Have this car inspected by a mechanic prior to purchase. UseCARFAXAirbag Tips to make sure this vehicle's airbag systemis functional. Federal Odometer Act The FederalOdometer Act requires a seller to disclose the vehicle's mileage on the titlewhen ownership is transferred. Congress enacted this Act to prohibit odometer tampering and to protect consumers frommileage fraud. Under this act, sellers must disclose any issues with the vehicle's odometer. These disclosures translate into the Exceed Mechanical Limits andNot Actual Mileage titles. First Owner When the first owner(s) obtains a title fromaDepartment of Motor Vehicles as proof of ownership. Manufacturer Recall Automobile manufacturers issue recall notices to informowners of car defects that have come to the manufacturer's attention. Recalls also suggest improvements that can be made to improve the safety of a particular vehicle. Most manufacturer recalls can be repaired at no cost to you. New Owner Reported When a vehicle is sold to a new owner, the Title must be transferred to the new owner(s) at aDepartment of Motor Vehicles. Not Actual Mileage Title When the seller certifies, under the FederalOdometer Act, that the odometer reading does not reflect the vehicle's actual mileage. This may occur because the odometer was tamperedwith, broken, or replaced. Ownership History CARFAXdefines an owner as an individual or business that possesses and uses a vehicle. Not all title transactions represent changes in ownership. To provide estimated number of owners, CARFAXproprietary technology analyzes all the events in a vehicle history. Estimated ownership is available for vehicles manufactured after 1991 and titled solely in theUSincluding PuertoRico. Dealers sometimes opt to take ownership of a vehicle and are required to in the following states: Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and SouthDakota. Please consider this as you review a vehicle's estimated ownership history. Salvage Title A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds approximately 75%of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not roadworthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following eleven states also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OKandOR. Title Issued A state issues a title to provide a vehicle owner with proof of ownership. Each title has a unique number. Each title or registration record on aCARFAXreport does not necessarily indicate a change in ownership. InCanada, a registration and bill of sale are used as proof of ownership. Total Loss Vehicle An insurance or fleet company declares a vehicle a total loss when a claimexceeds approximately 75%of its pre-damage value or if the vehicle is stolen and not recovered. This damage threshold varies by company. These companies typically take possession and obtain the title. Not all total loss vehicles result in aDMV-reported branded title. This may occur when an insurance company's definition of a total loss is different than the stateDMV's definition for a branded title or when the owner of the vehicle is a self-insured company, like a fleet or rental company. All i need to see is the front of the car..( right front impact will give me serious worry for the engine as the engine may be certainly affected which may be evident as cracks on the engine body #justsaying...) It seems the car was also involved in a rollover accident though... That being said, for me, i will pass. |

1.There is probably a right front impact. The extent of the right front impact should determine the engine condition. 2. Too many owners for me. About 4 owners. Kilode.
Although the engine could still be in very good condition considering that it was used for personal use by the 4 owners. Only once was the engine idling or timing checked, oil was changed regularly and the pics appear to be a roll over accident with less impact to the engine. |

I will advise you buy it. Reasons. 1. This very detailed VIN report, up till the crash shows a vehicle meticulously maintained by her previous owners. Giving the very detailed service history, and with car going for recall at several points of her ownership, the integrity of engine parts should not be an issue. This is a well used and maintained engine having the advantage of select parts installed brand new. Even if the engine is not installed whole, breaking it for parts will be profitable. Besides from the pic of the bonnet, there isn't structural damage to the engine at surface level.
2. Coming from a car written as total loss, engine + transmission will definitely come cheap. If not suitable for whole installation, can be dismantled and sold for parts. 1 Like |
