There are 3 ways of achieving your objective. 1. Get an external drive and copy your files to it 2. Run windows on it without formatting it in the real sense. It will keep your old files in windows.old in your C drive. 3.Create a partition from the disk you already have and move your files to it, then you can format the system partition.
