Jungle Justice: A Disregard For The Rule Of Law? by gabrielokeke555(m): 8:14pm On Jul 11, 2017
In Africa mostly in Nigeria, countless people has been beaten to pulp, maimed and in most cases, killed or burnt alive for mere allegations.
In a market or a crowdy place, call someone a thief and before you'll say jack, such a person would have been beaten to pulp and if he or she is not lucky, that person will be burnt alive base on mere allegation.
Jungle justice is a serious crime. Its an offence against the law to take someone live on mere allegation no matter the circumstances. The only circumstances one is justified to kill another is well stated in the law which are:
1. Self defense
2. In defense of others
3. Opposing combatants in war
4. Executioner carrying out a death sentence.
As far as 1 and 2 are concerned, you have to prove beyond every reasonable doubt that such an act occurred and it also has to be proportional to the threat.
And I don't think jungle justice can be excused as a 'defense of others' in the court of law if you're caught by the Police in the act.
So many innocent people has been killed via jungle justice unjustly.
The reason while I took my time writing this thing this morning is because I personally witnessed a guy that would have been lynched to death last week at works layout, owerri here by angry Students.
It all happened in the night when a young girl called her ex boy friend a thief and a rapist and and the guy was beaten to pulp by irate and angry youths before he was rescued by Policemen on patrol.
After investigation, it was discovered that the guy was dating the said girl before their breakup and the guy went to the girls house and took the laptop and camcorder he loaned the girl.
After some minor misunderstanding ensued between the duo, the guy beat up the girl and left the girls room with his laptop and camcorder. While he was leaving, the girl ran out almost naked calling the guy a thief and a rapist. The guy was chased and subsequently rounded up and beaten to a pulp.
If not for the quick intervention of the Police who were on patrol, that guy would have been killed unjustly.
Please and please, let us shun any act of jungle justice. Who ever is caught in a crime, or is being alleged to have committed any crime, please, if such a or group of persons is or are arrested, hand over such person(s) to the Police and let the law take its full course.

When the LAW doesn't work, and these criminals can just walk free from the police station (by simply bribing cops), it comes to a point where people say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and start looking for their own solution to the crime plague.

Here is a simple clue: you don't want jungle justice, well DONT do crime. Et voila!
